That's stupid. PSU was a top 5 team a couple weeks ag, and two games cost a coach his job?

He hasn't won the Big Ten since 2016, a year which he didn't go to the playoff but Ohio State did.

Penn State is also the only team in a LONG time to lose two straight games as 20+ point favorites. Those weren't just losses, they were complete breakdowns. It's pretty evident he has lost the faith of his players, fanbase, and admin.

Hell, even his playoff wins were over SMU and Boise... that's about as mellow a playoff run as you can possibly ask for and he loses essentially EVERY game against anyone with any clout.

Penn state isn't going to be able to poach a Texas A&M football coach that A&M wants to keep., unless that coach was a Penn State alum or for some other special personal connection to PSU. A&M is just as big of a football job and A&M's financial resources, recruiting advantages, and brand are top tier.

Indiana on the other hand is a Big 10 basketball school. I could see an Indiana football coach being vulnerable to getting their coach poached by some one like a Penn State.

Yeah I don't think Elko would be the target for PSU anyway.

However Elko's agent will be pushing things to get Elko more $ from A&M.

Are we going to suggest every fired head coach should be a consultant for us?

There are also going to be some other big time football jobs open this cycle that a Penn State will have to compete with….Like maybe a Florida…like maybe an Auburn…

Elko has zero relationship, ties, or history with Penn State. He's not interested in the job, and we're not going to have to fend them off. Stop talking about it. It's stupid.

First coach in history to lose two games after being favored by 20+ points in each of them.
And he did it in back to back weeks.

Dear People Who Run Things,

Elko's agent is lying. You do not have to worry about our coach leaving. He is well-paid for not having won a league title or a playoff game. Penn State will never back up a Brink's truck to anyone.

This is a ploy. Send Elko's agent's calls to voice mail and his emails to the spam folder. Make those checks payable to our NIL account if you need to spend money.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I agree with this. Plus the buyout for Franklin and his current staff are $50mil+ and thus they will be looking for a coaching bargain. A younger up and coming coach with a high ceiling and low buyout fits their targeted coaching profile.

Even in the depths of the Fran years we were never the obvious worst team in the B12. PSU would have to improve significantly to be mediocre right now. They are on track to be the worst team in the B10 and that is pretty staggering considering preseason expectations and their financial and recruiting advantages.

Coach Elko has shattered narrative that will change A&M and future A&M coaching even if he leaves A&M

1. It doesn't take 5 years to rebuild. IF coach can't change things by year 2, He ain't it.

2. As good as Elko as coach, It is A&M and A&M that will last. We just need a competent coach.

Now we only have the record for largest buyout for a coach by about $28 million. With NIL I now being part of the big time programs' budgets I think we may hold the record for a long, long time.

I've got a feeling the super contracts for coaches are going to become a thing of the past and move towards incentive laden contracts. The game moves too fast and players cost too much to have all the capital tied up in the coach.

A&M is laughing at the people shocked by a $49 million buyout.

Yeah if PSU only owes $49M vs. $73M (plus 2 years of ~10% inflation)...maybe their business school is better than ours

He is on the list. And he will consider it. The problem is, they can't outbid us if we choose to keep him. Things could get really expensive for us though. We've got 6 more years to pay two coaches.

Nothing is more terrifying to a big cigar than losing their "winning" coach to a rival program. Everyone is saying that the first call Penn State will make is to Cignetti, which means Mark Cuban and the other IU big cigars are already cooking up a big money extension offer. Either way, Cignetti is about to get PAID, and I doubt either option is going to be a university friendly, incentive laden contract.

Does Brian Kelly get a call. I still don't get why LSU got him. Such a bad fit there and clock is ticking on him already.

If Elko wins the championship this year, give him $100 million. If he doesn't then let him go to PSU if he wants.

The 2026 schedule has disaster written all over it. Adding a 50 million dollar buyout for a coach who hasn't won anything here would make it way way worse

Elko's contract is sane and heavy on incentives which is how it should be. I hope we don't blow that up with a knee jerk reaction here.

Real Aggie fan here. Already looking to buyout our 6-0 coach in anticipation of our difficult schedule next year. Impressive work.

Elko's contract with incentives is #1 in the SEC and #2 in the country. He will do very well if he just keeps winning.

Play for a conference title, win 2 games in CFP. Loose the semifinal by a field goal. Then get fired the next year? Why would a big name coach at an established program want that job? My guess is the go after the USF coach , Az State coach, or something similar.

You might want to slow that roll. PSU has the largest alumni base in the country and plenty of billionaires in their ranks. Hell one of their former players is a billionaire, so yes we may win the bidding war but it won't be for PSU being lolpoor.
