He's been around the league a long time, but the Georgia-Auburn game did him in.

I hope it wasn't just him. I get that the R is in charge, but the H blew both the goal line fumble and fake timeout calls.

On the fumble, the H blew the play dead, but also ruled the call on a field a fumble. That doesn't make any sense. If the call on the field is a fumble, Georgia should've been awarded a 99yd return and a TD. Blowing the play dead implies a TD (not the call on the field), forward progress (not the call on the field), or a fumble and Georgia recovered and was down (not even close to what happened).

And on the fake timeout, the H got gaslighted by Kirby. If you're going to blow the whistle, it has to either be a timeout or a penalty on the defense. Kirby should be fined for lying about not taking a timeout.

But that doesn't make any sense, why would they not charge a timeout if he didn't dispute the timeout call? It's kind of hard to read his lips there, but he for sure had to have said that he didn't take a timeout for them to reverse. He was for sure trying to tell them he was saying something he didn't say in the moment.

Makes perfect sense. Why didn't they call the D for delay of game? The safety was clearly clapping.

Many people have done the video analysis. He said "they were clapping" to the ref on the field. Maybe he told the ref that and the ref decided not to charge him. Who knows.

He even said he didn't signal for it in his post game press conference and thought the official just got confused, despite very clearly signalling for it. I think it's safe to say he told the refs on the field he didn't signal for one since that's his official story.

He may have been talking to the refs about the defense clapping on the field, but that doesn't change the fact he signaled for a timeout to do it and wasn't charged for one. If he wants to talk to the officials about it, he has time in between plays and drives to lodge a complaint.

He's also not the arbiter of whether the defense is causing a delay of game. If the officials don't see it, they can't call it. He can complain and ask them to watch for it, but he doesn't decide whether there's a penalty.

It's not a wash because the officials decide if the defense is clapping or not, not Kirby Smart. Georgia got away with a free timeout. Auburn got nothing.

Shoot, i remember a game not long ago where ATM lost to LSU after the refs called forward progress was stopped on an LSU player who DIDN'T have the ball. Now that is a neat trick.

Im sure you remember the play.

The announcers had to explain to us dumb fans that the call of forward progress being stopped was not a reviewable play as our coach was going nuts on sideline. Never bothering to mention forward progress of a ball carrier being stopped requires the player to be carrying the ball.

The look on the refs face when he realized the player he thought had the ball didnt and then he looks over his shoulder to see the Aggie defender with the ball like 8 yards down the field...you can literally see his mind spinning trying to understand. Why that ref didnt simply admit on the spot his mistake is beyond me...there could be no other explanation, but alas, he didnt and it cost the Ags the game.

When I first saw it really looked like he was saying time out, but I have since seen other angles where you can see he observes the DB clap and then starts running towards the ref yelling. Then a close up you can see he's saying "clapping". I was disgusted when I first saw it but now I fully believe Kirby Smart.

How do you explain the clear "T" he is making while running at the ref with the clock expiring?
I honestly think he didn't realize he was signaling timeout with his hands. It probably becomes second nature to do that for a head coach to signal that way when sprinting towards their sideline ref.

He never said the word "timeout" as he was running towards the ref. And he genuinely looked confused after they stopped play.
