Carefully worded offset language should prevent something like that, but if it just says something like "if coach takes another job, the buyout amount ~~will~~ shall be reduced by ..." The vast majority of contracts written contain fairly simple language -- or, at least, they don't provide many provisions that cover things that aren't foreseen or anticipated.
