This thread reminds me of all the names of potential coaches suggested here when we were seeking to replace Jimbo. I must say, right now there are no coaches I would pick over Elko. We could be in for a fun ride now.

I'm really happy how this year is going. But we've been down this road many times. No big raises till we get a trophy.

If we lose him, that's too bad. But I'm tired of being a college coaches retirement fund.

According to this, his max bonus is 3.5 million for a national championship. That would be a total of 10.5 million, not a bonus.

Frankly, it's really not our problem. It is AD, and the boosters.

Might be better to give Coach Moffitt a raise. Elko would probably like that also.

We have done some stupid contracts in the past but I am absolutely POSITIVE about Elko. Give him the contract today and next we can build some bronze statues of him holding multiple natties.

I thought we'd spent enough time wandering in the wilderness of college football to have learned from our mistakes.m, but some of you are fing stubborn and stupid.

As a houstonian...enduring the last several coaching failures...my beloved alma mater should never take houstonian coach or coach compensation advice again. So gently, respectfully, OP...stfu.

Already talk that it might be happening to keep him regardless (and that he's super tired of the BAS around here...although his wife seems to like it). His agent will still make the play for increases as it lines Sexton's pocket.

I think he needs to finish what he's started this year (win the SEC, make playoffs, make a push into the playoffs -- all of which pay him large bonuses).

But, too many openings and yes PSU is still interested.

Well, let's clarify one thing, I am actually OK with a raise and a rolling extension… that does not increase guaranteed $$ outside the term of the contract. The structure and terms of the contract should not be altered.

That I would be OK with depending on how the season finishes. At 8-0 nothing of the like has been earned though at 11-1 or 12-0 it would have been, though a small sample size and not a guarantee of future success.

Certainly appears more real than anything we saw under Sumlin or Fisher. The swagger of this team harkens all the way back to the late Sherrill / early Slocum teams. Mostly on defense back then, This team is more well rounded. Would hate to lose Elko just as it's getting started.

Elko won't succeed anywhere else either. The risk is there for him also. Like our BB coach moved to Kentucky and got fired.

He doesn't need a raise. He has an incentive laden contract that, if he keeps winning, will pay him plenty.
