For those that don't know the Louisiana Governor has a role in the firing/hiring of the LSU head coach because the school is without a president currently. He just made some interesting comments in regards to Scott Woodward, the current LSU AD and former A&M AD that hired Brian Kelly to a very similar contract that Jimbo had here.

He stated that Woodward won't be hiring the next LSU head coach and also added, "you know what's interesting, Woodward's agent, Kelly's agent, the Texas a&m (assuming Jimbo)agent, they're all the same agent...". He also said this of Woodward, "the guy that's here now that wrote that contract cost Texas A&M $77M, right now we have a $53M liability..."

I don't know about that, but what I do know is that I will listen the whole time as soon as a thick Cajun starts talking. That accent is mesmerizing. I get to play a game of "do I understand each word that was said".

Something does seem fishy about Scott Woodward and the agent nonsense. This should absolutely be looked into to hold him accountable, but no way was he able to unilaterally execute those contracts without someone else's approval. He's certainly one of the culprits, but he isn't the only one.

Agreed that Bjork did the stupid extension, but wasn't Jimbo's original deal 10 years for $75 million?

But Woodward was responsible for the 10 year $75 million contract to Jimbo and it was floated that lsu would offer 10 year $9+ million (can't remember the exact number). So A&M/Ross matched it.
If Woodward doesn't pursue Jimbo, we would not have offered that extension.

I'm not a fan of the agent representing both ways, but it was/is in both Woodward & Sexton's best interest for the hires to work out every time. Whiffing on high paid coaches leads to tension like we see now.

It's also in Sexton's best interest to get the best guaranteed deal for his clients.

The governor's comments are embarrassing, albeit entertaining and also spot on for that ****hole state.

Also, Woodward didn't necessarily miss on Jimbo. Had the next regime (and it wasn't just Bjork no matter how much people want to think it was him in a silo) not guaranteed Jimbo what they did, then his original contract ultimately was fine.

This is just possibly time we see a change in head coaching contracts going forward. That said, you know Ole Miss will 100% guarantee whatever they offer Lane to stay, so schools who want him will have to factor that in to their pursuit.

The original Jimbo contract was negotiated with full amount of remaining contract due upon termination, correct? The extension just used the original verbiage, correct?

If the original contract would have had verbiage that reduced the remainder by the salary of his next coaching gig, the extension would have then use that original verbiage correct?

If so, Woodward had a part in that bad contract and the extension of that bad contract, and was a laughing stock along with his employer.

Forming a committee to hire the next coach. Yeah, that's the absolutely best way to pick a coach. Bunch of big money coach wannabes and others jostling to get "their" guy hired. This should be fun.
