I wonder what it cost them to retire Shedeur's number there.
It's amazing what 17-11 and some nepotism will get you.
Colorado brought this on themselves if you ask me.

It was probably worth it. After he was hired, CU had a record number of new student applications and donations to not just the athletic department but also the school hit all-time record highs. They were on national TV seemingly every single week for 2+ seasons. It was no different than it was at A&M when we had "home run" hires with Fran and Jimbo. People around here were just as crazy then as the people in Colorado were a couple of years ago.

You put "home run" in quotes. You are correct to do that.

You think a bump in student applicants and athletic donations for a year or three was worth it? I disagree. Carnival barkers can get everyone excited about something for the short run. Then they head out with the money and leave you with nothing of real value.

My favorite thing Mike Elko has said at least twice since he's been at A&M is that this is a real program. No fast talking politicians. No gimmicks. You want to learn to play football better? Come here.

Fool's gold is worthless no matter how excited we or Colorado folks were when we bought it. Yes, we bought a lot of fool's gold ever the years. But Colorado's turn with fool's gold takes the cake for getting taken in. At least we could point at Jimbo's national title.

Even if it was just a 1-year bump, it was probably worth it to CU. It would not have been worth it at Bama or Ohio State or Georgia or Oregon…but for Colorado, that's as good as it gets. The best a program and school like that can hope for is some flashy, whizz-bang gimmick to draw some interest. They're not attracting anyone who will coach them into being a perennial power. They need flash and fireworks, even if it's short-lived.

I know Deion has legit health issue and I wouldn't wish ill on anyone, but imo, he will use that as a reason why he won't return next year. Colorado doesn't want to fire him because then they labeled racist. SAS and espn would be out there that day claiming Prime is a victim of racism. Couldn't happen to a worse fanbase

I was thinking about that. But a lot of black coaches get fired for not meeting football expectations.

However, you're right. He'll use his health as a ln excuse to step down/retire from coaching.

This country has been always been attracted to the carnival barker schtick and, sadly, we seem to have been particularly susceptible to it as a culture over there psst decade. Mage church Preachers and politicians have taken the opportunity and run with it so why not coaches?

Everything Prime does is to benefit Prime. Maybe I'm wrong. I heard an interview he gave before he left for CU, and at the time, with what he'd done there I thought maybe he was genuinely looking out for and caring for those young men.. But I now wonder if it wasn't all performative art.

You're not.

Deion has one person in mind always: himself. He may expand that to his family routinely, but it doesn't take away how he feels about himself.

Sure, he SAYS the right things when the cameras are rolling but it is mostly shtick.

Correct.

I am a huge Deion Sanders fan (he was a very good legit two-sport athlete). And he's a world class self-promoter. I gotta hand it to him. He's really good...but not at coaching.

Only thing that would improve this is if Shedeureure gets cut

You know, I thought Shedeur even being in consideration for Heisman and other awards was absurd. They weren't any good when he was there. But this year, their implosion is so bad, makes me think maybe Shedeur really was that good and the only reason they were as mediocre as they were was him and Hunter. But then I remember that no, he still sucks, just his dad is an even worse coach and leader of men.
