Well, the only good thing is if the Ags are 5, 6 ,7 or 8 ... a game at Kyle Field, on Dec 19 or 20. Can you imagine?

I am so proud that you guys finally learned how to spell the word "lose" and for the most part used "then" and "than" correctly on this thread.

Excellent work all around.

Also, of course you want a bye. That's a stupid ass question.

The first round bye is satisfying. Take the win. But then win the damn game.

1. Just win. One game at a time. I don't care about where we will be weeks from now, all I care about now is missou . I may not have any physical influence on the game but my "force" energy is 100% focused on this Saturday

2. Bye week in general allows a week of rest to get everyone healthy and a week of prep

3. All the games except the championship should be played on campus. Best atmosphere, it was awesome seeing all playoff games on campus

Because it drastically improves the odds of a national championship. Pretty simple.

All the 1st round byes lost the 1st playoff game they played last year

true, but different scenario this year

i believe everyone of those teams that lost was an underdog.

the seeding changes will change that

Even if you remove last years goofy seeding format, Uga & Oregon were widely considered the favorites of the playoffs...

They both got smoked

Not saying I wouldn't prefer the bye but the automatic assumption that the bye is the advantage may get tested over the next few years

Iron sharpens iron & the first round game could provide benefits in the 2nd round w respect to being dialed in vs coming off roughly a month long break

You are forgetting that Georgia lost their QB in the SECCG. That had a lot to do with them losing.

Bingo! Of course we should strive for a Bye. That means we probably won the SEC Championship

The seeding format is different this year, but i think the new arrangement still has potential to give non-bye week teams an advantage

Conference title is no longer a bye requirement....

This means you could potentially have a team like Notre dame, or another high ranked team that missed conference title game w a bye

So now you have the proposed favorite playing a new year game after not having played for a month against a team that played a week and half prior

I'm not arguing that teams should strive not to achieve a bye week.... That goal is obvious... The discussion here is based on whether or not sitting idle for a substantial amount of time becomes a hindrance on the 2nd round teams that had byes

We'll find out soon enough

Here is another thing OP and others have not thought of.

The higher seeds get preferential treatment for quarter final game location.

So, we most likely are playing in Arlington in our quarterfinal game.

But if we do not get a bye, we could end up anywhere in the quarter final round. Such as Pasadena or Miami.

As SEC champion we have to go to the Sugar Bowl as a quarterfinal game, which isn't ideal. Losing SECCG would put us either in Orange or Cotton, as Rose Bowl hosts B1G champion.

"The four quarterfinal games are not played on campus sites like in the first round. The quarterfinals, scheduled on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 will be played at the Cotton Bowl, Orange Bowl, Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl. The four highest-ranked teams will be assigned one of these bowls in consideration of historic bowl relationships as well as seeding."

For reference, see the fact that Georgia (SEC Champ) went to the Sugar Bowl last year instead of the Peach Bowl.

pretty sure none of them were actually favored, half were double digit underdogs

I'd love to just make the playoffs first. But yes we want the bye for any of a million reasons.

I want to play as many games as possible. I understand injuries blah blah blah but this is football and part of the game. I want more games not less.

Go undefeated and we get an extra game => SEC championship game in ATL.

I hope we go 12-0 and go against Bama in the SEC title game.

Its a free game, playing with house money. Gives the team a chance to see where they stack up against a top 5 team. Win or lose, we still probably get a 1st round bye. But it would be good to get that "first loss" over with before the playoffs. Because once the playoffs come around, there are no do-overs or second chances.

It would be even better to get the "first postseason win."

Fewer games means fewer chances to lose and more opportunities for our players to get injured

Of course If there's a home hand I won't be sad
