Pardon my posting abilities. I used to post quite a bit years ago and was able to pull it off, for the most part. anyway ... Hope this posting works.

My thoughts on this 2025 version of the Aggies. I see Mike Elko guiding The Texas Aggies to becoming Self-Actualized. They have the desire to become everything they are capable of becoming.

The 2025 Texas Aggies are Self-Actualizing before our very eyes. It's True! It's Happening, folks!

Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs
Maslow's hierarchy is typically represented as a pyramid with five levels:
[ol]
  • Physiological Needs: Basic requirements for human survival, such as food, water, and shelter.
  • Safety Needs: Security and protection from physical and emotional harm.
  • Love and Belongingness Needs: Emotional relationships, friendships, and social connections.
  • Esteem Needs: Self-esteem, respect from others, and recognition.
  • Self-Actualization The desire to become everything that one is capable of becoming, which can only be pursued after the lower needs are satisfied.
  • [/ol]

It's deja vu' all over again....

At any level they can do what is required - the more primal the better the chance of success. So i'd focus on the lower end of the need pyramid:

Is OP a teacher? I feel like teachers learn about Maslow's on a professional development day and then its the lens through which they view the entire world.

Where's that level where you're full of hate and loathing? I think our team is there, and loving it.

I remember management classes back in the 70s that told me Maslow's Hierarchy was proven invalid. Now, if you want to discuss Herzberg's Two-Factor Theory, I'm all in.

The Hierarchy of Needs for a College Football Program

Level 1: Program Viability (Physiological Needs)

These are the absolute, non-negotiable requirements for a program to simply exist and function at the Division I level. Without these, there is no team.
    • Funding (scholarships, staff salaries, travel budget)
    • A full roster of players
    • A complete coaching and support staff
    • A "home" conference to play in
    • Basic facilities (a field to practice on, a place to lift weights)
    • Equipment (helmets, pads, uniforms)
Level 2: Safety Needs (Stability & Resources)

A program can't thrive if it's constantly in fear of collapse. This level is about creating a stable, secure foundation for long-term success in the modern era.
    • NCAA compliance (avoiding probation and sanctions)
    • Coaching stability (long-term contracts, minimal turnover)
    • A robust and competitive NIL program (retaining and attracting talent)
    • A consistent, Top-40-level recruiting pipeline
    • Upgraded, modern facilities (weight room, practice fields, stadiums)
    • Consistent bowl eligibility (achieving 6+ wins annually)
Level 3: Love & Belonging (Culture, Community & Identity)

With stability secured, a program can focus on building its identity. This is the "heart" of college footballthe traditions, the buy-in, and the community that make it more than just a game.
    • A strong, positive locker room culture (player buy-in)
    • A passionate, engaged fanbase that fills the stadium
    • Beloved traditions (rivalry trophies, chants, pre-game rituals)
    • A distinct and respected brand identity
    • Strong alumni and community support
    • National media relevance (being part of the weekly conversation)
Level 4: Esteem Needs (Competitive Respect & Recognition)

Once a program is a beloved community staple, it must earn respect. This level is about moving from just "being there" to being a consistent winner and a threat to the top tier.
    • Consistently winning 9+ games per season
    • Winning a Power Four (or top-tier G5) Conference Championship
    • Winning New Year's Six (NY6) or other major bowl games
    • Finishing the season nationally ranked (e.g., in the AP Top 25)
    • Consistently beating rivals
    • Producing All-Americans and first-round NFL draft picks
    Level 5: Self-Actualization (Elite Achievement & Legacy)

This is the pinnacle of college football, where a program achieves its full potential and builds a lasting dynasty. This state is reserved for the true elite.
    • Winning the National Championship
    • Consistent College Football Playoff (CFP) appearances
    • Producing Heisman Trophy winners and other major national award winners (Thorpe, Bednarik, etc.)
    • Establishing a "dynasty" or being universally recognized as a "Blue Blood" program
    • Having the program's success become a defining, indivisible part of the university's brand
