Which coach deserves it more?

- As things stand, I think it is Cignetti's award to lose. The Hoosiers have been the losingest Power 4 college football program for a while until he got there. In just 2 years, they've been able to go to the playoffs and be a threat for a national title both years. They will play for a Big 10 title in his 2nd year which is unbelievable.

- But if they happen to slip up to tOSU in the Big 10 Title while we go undefeated winning in Atlanta, Elko may get it.

Pretty tough argument to have here.

They literally went to the playoffs last year. At what point do we stop talking about how shi**y they used to be.

Elko, and I'm not just being a homer.

IU was in the playoffs last year

If the winner isn't chosen until after conference championships then this is pretty easy unless both teams win out. But if they do, I think Elko has the edge because of the rebuild job and turnaround from last year to this year, as others have said.

Flip a coin. Both deserving. If just looking at this year, I'd give the slight edge to Elko since IU was in the playoff last year.

You know there are 12 different National Coach of the Year awards. It looks that the oldest one is AFCA Coach of the Year Award, and Cignetti already won that one last year. No one has ever won the award back to back since 1935. Interesting that Nick Saban has never won this award, that's shocking.

Not that he doesn't deserve it but it'll be Cignetti because they'll say it's much harder to win at Indiana. Up until recently, they had the most losses in history (now 2nd to Northwestern). The media loves an underdog story.

That's what I'm thinking

Everyone is loving the Indiana Cinderella story

And Mendoza will get the heisman

They weren't all that great last year either.
Lost the games they played against competitive opponenents.

This year's different though.

Another interesting Saban stat that I ran into recently was that he had more national championships at Alabama than road wins against Auburn.

Wut? How can a team that made the playoffs last season be a Cinderella this season? That makes zero sense. If any team is a Cinderella this year, it is A&M. Finished 8-5 a year ago. Picked to be lower middle of the pack this year. By all metrics, A&M is Cinderella this year.

It should have been him last year, but they gave it to Marcus Freeman. So yah, he probably gets it this year and I'm fine with it.

Tell that to everyone else in the country. You speak the truth, but everyone else has convinced themselves Indiana deserves even more love than even now.

Have to give it to indianas coach. It's Indiana football. They'll get murdered in the big 10 championship game though.

This.

I've seen the Hoosiers called a "Cinderella" team this year. How in the heck can a team that went to the playoffs just last season be called a "Cinderella" team?

I agree, but that's not how everyone is acting..,

Because it's Indiana

They've sucked balls forever and they gave everyone rooting for them to make a run

Them at 2 and us at 3 should tell you all you need to know

It's different if they beat OSU. If they lose it's the exact same. Of course someone could make the same agreement about us.

We are playing a lot of borderline 3-stars under Elko who he had to have transfer in to fill all the holes Jimbo left.

No brainer if Ags go undefeated in the SEC, but it depends on who votes. Hope tOSU loses to Mich, but destroys IU.

If Oregon wins out. And Michigan beats Ohio State.

It will be Oregon and Indiana in conference champ game.

Did Cignetti take a lower base salary to pay his staff?

I think they should factor that in.

Also like others have said IU went to the playoffs last year, so it's not like they dramatically improved.

I've gotta give em some credit for beating Oregon on the road.
