FWIW, ESPN projects us at 6 which would have us hosting their #11 Virginia.

I'm just saying it's dumb to ***** about our ranking when Elko and his team controlled their fate. I'm not saying you are *****ing but a lot of people here are. If you lose the last game of the season, you will be dropped. It's better to lose early.

Recency bias sucks

The ND schedule is the way to do it

2 (and only 2) real games right at the start of the season and then 10 cupcakes.

If you win the two real games great. If you don't it's at the start of the season and finishing on a 10 game cupcake winning spree means all is forgiven and you're in the playoff without question almost every year.

NDSU is an FCS school.

Does it count now as a "ranked" win for someone?

No chance they get left out.

Depends on their team now. This could very easily be interpreted as being a bigger deal than an injured QB1

I doubt they fall at all, maybe one spot.

I'm hearing we purposely lost so we can host an extra game at Kyle versus having to play in the SEC championship. Huge windfall.

Haha, just kidding.

That's not how any of this works. They have until mid-January to make the decision to follow Lane, so why would they forfeit an opportunity to play in the playoffs???

It's not nearly as complicated as you're trying to make it. Several Ole Miss contributors will follow Lane to LSU, but they'll do so AFTER their season is done. The money isn't going anywhere and there's absolutely no urgency on Lane's part to rush them into the portal immediately when he isn't even coaching the team yet

No one cares how you played at the start of the season…. They know like anyone else that knows football that how a team looks on the back half of season is more truth than the start of the season

We should have beaten Texas and we didn't…this is who we are

That's not how it's supposed to be. The point of having a SEASON is that the whole SEASON matters.

One of the best teams in the country losing in a rivalry game on the road in their final game is freaking meaningless compared to losing to Arizona State, no matter what cope fest is conjured up about injured players (while ignoring that we have been playing with 3 starters injured half the season).

But those things that have been a problem ALL season manifested themselves in the last game: Like bad/no tackling, 2 field goal kickers that are 50% from extra point range, inconsistent play, pedestrian secondary, a quarterback with too much adrenalin (when Reed gets to pressured, overthrows or just plain misses.), and going for the Guinness on penalties.

Our loss to tu is better than Tech's loss to.ASU. I don't know why that's hard for people to understand. Not that I expect AP voters to pay attention or understand that. I do expect the committee to understand that though.

FWIW, IIRC, all four teams with a first round bye last year lost in the 2nd round.
A big part of that was how the bracket was structured. The byes all went to conference champions, whether they were good or not. This year, all byes are given out on merit. Apples and oranges.

I think being ranked 5th or 6th would make more sense after losing at Texas because a drop to 7th seems a bit harsh for just one loss that happened to be the regular season finale.

If the favorites win their respective conference championship Games, I am predicting the following seeds.

1. 13-0 Big 10 Champion Ohio State
2. 12-1 SEC Champion Georgia
3. 12-1 Big 10 Runner-Up Indiana
4. 12-1 Big 12 Champion Texas Tech
5. 11-1 Oregon
6. 11-1 Texas A&M
7. 11-1 Ole Miss
8. 10-2 Oklahoma
9. 10-2 Notre Dame
10. 10-3 Alabama
11. 11-2 ACC Champion Virginia
12. 11-2 AAC Champion North Texas for the Group of 5 CFP Spot

That's true about the SC game. As much as that win was awesome to watch as an Ag, that's the type of win we would call "lucky" or "should have lost" if it were another team.

100% they find a way to include Texas. They are making a ton of noise and we all know when they throw a tantrum they get what they want.

The committee will put them at 13, so when BYU loses to Tech again, they slide right into the 12 spot. If I'm wrong, so be it, but I've seen this rigged bull**** for years. When they say they're baaaaaack, this is what they mean, back to getting their way.

Due to auto bids of conference champions they would have to have them up at 10, since 11 is likely going to ACC winner (could be G5 if Duke), and 12 also going to G5. So no Texas isn't getting in.

If you are trying for max $$ in the portal you wait until the season is done and have the leverage with other schools in the mix competing.

This isn't the same as skipping the Alamo Bowl.

What disaster!!! How can we survive this catastrophe?

Answer- Win your games. I think this is universal in the world of CF. We face the same problem, except we have had to blow out every team we play. Even a 23+ point margin of victory in 10 of your 11 games isn't enough. You could have it worse.

As others have said, you're missing a few things. Specifically how the G5 and ACC (or 2nd G5 champ) will screw things up.

Tu has to be top 10 to make it and they basically have to be there in tomorrows rankings because they're not jumping any teams (including bama) based on conference champ games other than possibly BYU, but that is a single spot. They were 14 by AP and will be similar in playoff.

They have no chance.

And when the Bison fans come to Frisco every year for their NC game, it's a blast as they the best, friendliest fans anywhere.

The championship game this year is in Nashville.
