jw yall's thoughts…?

I guess BYU would become the #10 seed since Virginia would be #11 and group-of-5 team is #12.

Edit: Notre Dame is currently ranked ahead of Alabama.

I would be surprised if they punish the SEC championship game loser by keeping them out

What if both BYU and Duke wins? What two deserving teams would be out then?

I'm not sure it would qualify as "punishing" them since Notre Dame is ranked ahead of Alabama.

But in that case, could you not argue that with 3 losses Bama has a Florida State problem that is akin to the Florida problem the sips have?

It would still just be Alabama or Notre Dame kicked out. They are saying Duke would be out even if they win. And it'd be the winner of North Texas or Tulane in the playoff with James Madison making the playoff too in Duke's place.

So the ACC game has less bearing, bc it'll be Virginia or James Madison taking the slot that'd normally go to the ACC. BYU is who can get ND or Bama kicked out.

If BYU and Duke both win then that allows two Group of 5 teams to get in, meaning only 10 remaining spots would be available. You would then have to cut two teams from the group of Bama, ND, OU, Miami and Texas Tech

I think a more interesting question is what happens if Bama and BYU win? Does that drop OU or ND out?

We will be the ones who get left out...

Right. But that basically boils down to cutting out Miami who is already out, and cutting out either ND or Bama. Tech and OU are too highly ranked to fall out.

That would definitely kick out Notre Dame if those are the two options, I'd imagine, which would be funny because it's possible they're as good as anyone.

And the 7-seed would play #10 BYU in Round 1.

They could just drop Tech out. It's not like Tech is 12-0.

No we will not. Even ESiPN would not want the smoke of an 11-1 SEC team being left out of the playoffs to seat a three-loss at-large team that truly doesn't carry that much national weight (TV eyeballs).

11 and 12 seeds are locked at this point from at-large bids. Bama will not be punished if it loses the SECCG unless they get blown out. If Tech loses the BXIICG, THAT could create a headache, though. OU will be happier if Bama loses, because they might be first-out otherwise.

OU beat Alabama on the road and both have 2-losses. No way can Bama jump OU if Bama lost their SECC game.

Yeah, but their only loss was without their starting QB, which the committee is clearly factoring in given Tech's high ranking.

I think if BYU wins bigxii gets 2 teams in.

Bama is on outside looking in

They are already behind nd in playoff rank

If bama & byu both win, nd gets bumped

A&M has played most of the season without its best RB (and maybe 2nd best in the nation behind Love). Is the committee taking that into consideration?

Tech lost their starting tailback in August for the year.

And he's nowhere near as good as Moss. TTU's best win isn't as good as A&M's, and TTU's loss is worse than A&M's. Just the facts.

The problem is that you have the Miami and ND argument and you would have an ou and Bama argument because the committee doesn't want to punish Bama for losing in the SEC championship. There would be 4 teams for two spots. The easiest thing would be to take ou and Bama or Miami and ND. I'm guessing they would favor ou and Bama even though they desperately want ND in the playoffs.

Notre Dame is probably out if BYU and Alabama win. Alabama is in as the SEC champ and BYU as the Big 12 champ. Committee then has to choose between two loss teams for the last three spots. Georgia, Texas Tech, Notre Dame, and Oklahoma. Luckily us, Oregon and Ole Miss are already in the clubhouse with only one loss. The outlier is if Alabama lost big in the champ game would that allow Miami to jump in as the 10 seed as long as BYU loses too

That's right. It wouldn't be punishing them

If they didn't play in the seccg and byu won, as the last team n bama would be out

Whoever is ranked lower of notre dame and OU, so notre dame is out in that scenario

In that final scenario I don't think, though I'm not sure, they'd punish bama for losing the extra championship game, even if it was a blowout loss

But with this committee you just never know

Difference is Bama played an additional (SEC championship) game and shouldn't be punished for that. Also Bama actually beat Georgia in the regular seasonwhile texas got waxed by Georgia. And Bama didn't have to go to overtime against the likes of Kentucky and Miss. State.

don't forget OU

the Sooners really flunk the eye test offensively

OU has a better resume than ND, but definitely don't look better than ND

Cuz they do. Harder strength of schedule. Better win. More ranked wins.

With Kiffin leaving, if BYU wins, they might consider pushing Ole Miss out.
