I think it's time to go to 16 teams. Only 2 loss or better teams are eligible, and everyone plays 2 p4 teams and 9 conference games. Either 1 or 2 spots for G5. If the P4 run out of 2 loss teams then byes can happen. Tu is still out. The problem is the NFL has parity scheduling which is hard to do in college unless all 4 leagues are 16 teams and no independents are eligible.

Indiana won't be #2. They'll either drop to 3 or be #1 if they somehow beat OSU. Georgia will be #2 if they beat Bama

…I guess they could stay at 2 if Georgia loses to Bama

Disagree. OhSt/Indiana are likely going to stay 1/2 unless the game is 4TDs or more. You could argue 3TDs or whatever, but a 29-20 type game isn't moving either out of the 1-2 spot regardless of what UGa does.

No way. UGA as sec champ with the same record as IU will be 2. UGA has been the hottest team, and has history on their side.

This does not factor in the auto G5 team or the ACC champ, especially if it is Virginia.

ETA, they will take away the 11 and 12 spots. So the teams currently ranked there go away, no?

Edited to also add, I do not think there is any way we lose a home game. I just don't see even this biased committee having the nerve to drop an 11-1 SEC team below 8, even below 7. We really should be 5 based on real SOS and SOR and wins against teams ranked at the time.

Would you rather play a home game vs ND or Bama, or play a road game against BYU as the 9 seed?

Have to beat them all anyway. I would rather have the home game.

The more I look at it unfortunately the more I feel like 7 is the right ranking for us. We have a relatively bad loss to the 13 team and only one ranked win. While Tech has a bad loss they also have 3 ranked wins in the eye of the committee. Oregon has a home loss to number 2 and two ranked wins even though I think Missouri could be swapped for Iowa. Ole Miss has 1 ranked win but a better loss to number 3 Georgia.

This. There's no conspiracy and the committee doesn't hate us. Losing to the sips really hurt our resume. But we're still getting credit for 11-1, and a first round game at Kyle is a nice consolation prize.

How does having one loss, on the road, to a ranked team, by 10 points do that?

Repeating.

"No drama" (favorites all winning in the conference championship games) this weekend is GOOD for our Aggies!

(AND I think gets us Bama at Kyle Field)

If Duke wins the ACC then no ACC team will be selected. 2 G5 conferences will be higher ranked.

as others have said no matter what ACC/AAC/Sunbelt will take 11 and 12. as per the playoff rules

locks in playoff

OSU
IU
Georgia
Tech
Oregon
Ole miss
A&M
OU
Bama - i dont think they punish SEC runnerup

ACC/AAC/Sunbelt for 2 spots

11 locks

that leaves 1 spot open out of these:

BYU
ND
Miami?

I think if tech wins, georgia wins then BYU is out and Bama falls one spot. to avoid rematches bama plays A&M, OU plays ND, Ole Miss plays Virginia, Oregon plays Tulane/NTX winner

My opinion but i just think thats how it shakes out.
- avoids rematches first round
- SEC isnt punished for championship game
- Media darling ND still gets to participate

I would think the committee would be happy to match us up with Bama over ND.

It helps with the SEC bias accusations and guarantees one SEC team gets knocked out…and it avoids a ND rematch which has a little upside for them with a ND win but a big downside if we beat ND

One thing that is definitely a problem and why the SEC and B1G demanded more control of this, is the committee still thinks there is a Power 4 and views all 11-1 records fairly equally and conferences champs fairly equally. Not so for the ACC this year though I do think of Miami was ACC champ. at 11-2 they would put them at 5 or 6 with the champ game data point.

This rationale and line of thinking is evident with Technical being #4. Their best win does not compare to the best win of any team ranked 5-9 and their loss is terrible (to a team that lost to MS State). Based on any objective measures and the CFPs own criteria, Technical should be below Oregon, aTm, and Ole Miss no question. But they just see 11-1 and Power 4 and put them at the 4th seed.

Ultimately the CFP will expand to 16 teams and the above is why the SEC (and B1G) is demanding at least 4 guaranteed spots, as currently if BYU beats technical both will be in and could be at the expense of OU or Bama (likely not, likely means ND is out and Miami no chance but this is just an example).

Tech will probably drop a spot or two in that case. The committee loves them because they didn't watch them lose to Arizona State.

I've consistently stated that expansion beyond 6 has always been unjustified. Lean on the conference championships as the functional first round of the playoff. I've never seen a season where more than 5 teams have the resume to claim they should be in contention to be considered the best team of the year.

It doesn't matter how people "feel" about a match up. It's to the point, it doesn't matter. As Elko has said, let's drop the ball and just play the game--IT DOESN'T MATTER WHO IT IS.

Only way I would support 16 teams is make ND join a conference. They sleep walk their way to a playoff spot every year in a 16 team tournament. They basically have in the 12 team format.

That should have happened when the playoffs went to 12. They should have been told conference members only. crap or get off of the pot.

There is no assume, 100% ND would be out (unless the committee took the extraordinary measure of dropping tech completely out).

I would think tech and byu would both be 8-12. Def think tech would drop below Oregon, Ole Miss and aTm followed by BYU and Technical.

Will be very interesting to see what happens if either or both of BYU and Bama win.

ACC doesn't really matter. UVa wins they are 11 and there is one G5 at 12, Duke wins ACC is out and two G5s are 11/12.

Well our current season clearly refutes that. You think at 11-1 aTm doesn't deserve a shot to play for the NC?!?!?!!!!

Also given the expansion and size of the conferences now the conf. champ games actually mean LESS now and could not be used, construed or viewed as a de-facto first round playoff.

The whole fallacy everyone buys into is that it didn't matter what teams were ranked when we played them. We beat a number of ranked teams. They aren't ranked now…and we are part of the reason.

AGREE that ND is out with a BYU win - unless Georgia obliterates and embarrasses Bama - in which case Gump MIGHT be out - but I think committee will do all they can to avoid punishing a team that played (and lost) the extra game while others were idle.

HOWEVER, I disagree that Tech would fall that far for losing the extra game. I think a victorious BYU Big XII Champ would be elevated and placed ahead of Texas A&M - but not certain Texas Tech might not also stay above us - as the committee is so certain that we are undeserving (and, again, wants to avoid penalizing teams that play and lose in Conference Championship games).

IN FACT, if BOTH BYU and Bama win - we might be pushed down to 9 spot and miss out on hosting.

Hence, the reason I am cheering for CHALK in those two Conference Championship games.

BTHO the playoffs!!!

I think ND is out if BYU wins and if BYU loses.

Miami has the head to head and I think we get them at Kyle.

I contend this year's best team could be as simple as a single B1G champ vs Georgia game.

yOu HaVE tO pLAy tHe GamEs!

Fine, let's say we open it up to all 1-loss teams WITHOUT a loss to another contender. We're still down to 4-5 by Sunday (GA if they win otherwise Ole Miss, B1G champ, Big12 champ, us, and Oregon if Indiana loses).

Any argument beyond that starts from a bracket-worthiness perspective.

I hope Texas Tech and Georgia both win too. If that happens, I am predicting the following playoff seeds.

1. Ohio State
2. Georgia
3. Indiana (ranked above Big 12 Champion Texas Tech to prevent a rematch with Oregon in the quarterfinals)
4. Texas Tech
5. Oregon
6. Texas A&M
7. Ole Miss
8. Oklahoma
9. Notre Dame
10. Alabama
11. Virginia
12. North Texas

Our SOS is much higher than that of both tech and ole Miss with the same record. That was supposed to matter. I have no doubt we go 11-1 or possibly 12-0 against tech's schedule. I don't think they go 11-1 with ours. You know that whole strength of record thing where we finished 3rd that proved meaningless.

Tech played a cream puff nonconference schedule yet it seems the committee is not holding that against them at all. They lost to Arizona State in conference the team that couldn't even beat lowly Mississippi State from the SEC. Tech had the chance to schedule a tough nonconference opponent and didn't take it but they're getting a pass.
