We've had 4 games that if we won would have gotten us a spot in Atlanta. We lost all 4

We've played 1 bowl game and lost it.

We played tu twice and lost both times (to be fair that counts as one of the 4 losses)

Now I will give credit to the ND win this year. That ended up being a huge one (we prob miss the playoffs if we lost that), but we really really need to win at least one playoff game to show that we can get it done on the big stage.

If we lose our first round playoff game how would you feel about Elko's first 2 years?

If you don't see 11-1 in year freaking 2 of the Elko era as anything other than a success beyond even your own imagination you are trying to hard to suck at life. Get a life and look at things with real perspective.

Half our starters are 3-stars or borderline 3-stars. Consider yourself lucky to be 11-1.

We won a few games to be in position to be one win away from Atlanta

He broke the SEC road losing streak
Broke the OOC P5 losing streak
Beat LSU so badly they fired their coach

The Team is better
likely going to the playoffs but If it makes you happy be a malcontent

Yep. All the following guys had at least one 3 star rating and several were consensus 3 stars.

also beating a couple of good Missouri teams -- folks forget Mizzou went 10-3 last year...and 8-4 this year

the Ags have had a very tough time with the Tigers in the 21st century -- home and away -- starting in 2002

It sucks that it completely broke them that no one wants to them credit for that win anymore. That was a massive win and so was the one at home last year against LSU.

Already feel really good about his first 2 years. Had team in position late in the season both years to make the SECCG. In the Playoffs in year 2.

Elko's first two years have exceeded my expectations. He seems to be building something good.
(I'll need to see year 3 before I decide anything though.)

That sip game last weekend was so bad. Ags have a great season every now and then, and then go back to our usual mediocrity. That sloppy, ugly, loss in Austin looks like the cycle beginning to repeat.

I really hope I'm wrong and the team wins some playoff games.

Bull*****

If we had lost LSU, or Missouri, or ND you'd have called those "important games". All of those were far more meaningful than a random bowl against USC.

Basically, you're discounting games once we win them.

If you can't enjoy 11-1, you're probably going to be miserable most years.

Does anybody really think Concepcion is 3 star now? Same could be said for a few others on the list. Some kids develop and improve more than others - regardless of what their star rating was out of HS.

I'm way more interested in how many players we have on the team that will make it in the NFL.

Somehow bangers went from unrealistic expectations to undue entitlement despite 1 loss season, playoffs in the span of 25 games. Pretty amazing

So all the games that set us up to that point weren't meaningful? I always love when people paint the worst picture possible with selective stats.

We are ahead of schedule. No ifs ands or buts about it.

Next year has a lot of roster turnover and a harder schedule on paper. We will begin to really start to distinguish in years 3/4 Elkos for the long term. But for now, we are ahead of schedule

And their portal ranking is far more useful to use to look at those rates

You can't compare 3 stars out of high school versus having 2-3 years of college film on them. Your hit rate should go way up.

It doesn't really make sense to talk about 3 star high school guys once they hit the portal in years 2/3/4 in college

The nfl takes a ton of 3 stars because they have college film. It's outdated 2 years after they are on campus with more data to work with. They weren't just blindly taking 3 stars out of high school

****ing awesome. Not a single coach since rc would have finished 11-1 this season. We won many games this year weve lost 100s of time over previously.

Our roster is good, not great. Not a lot of NFL talent on this team unlike what tosu, uga and bama are playing with.

Elko is building a great thing. If you cant see that its going to be a long 7 years

OP does have a legit point although he may be trolling. But the fact remains we lost to a VERY beatable tu team this year. Not just lost, but didnt come close to playing our best. Overall Elko has done great but we're still waiting to see if he can win the big game.

We'll see in the playoffs.

Well to be fair that game was circled for most of us because we all knew how important it was. Winning meant a SEC title game and all but a guaranteed top 4 CFP ranking. Instead, we came out flat and got punked by a t.u. team that most people thought would be an easy win. he coaches and team were not prepared for that game which was pretty evident to anybody that as seen this team play all year.

I feel fantastic. Year 2. have extreme confidence that Elko has a vision for the program, knows how to run it, he can recruit high character guys (doesn't chase stars), identify and attract transfers, make in game adjustments, AND develop talent.

I dont if we will win 11+ next year. But, I am very confident that Elko is the man for A&M.

I mean, a step forward has been taken. Sure.

But next year is when its really going to be apparent where we are.

That said, for the first time in awhile, things do look like they are improving.

Today's winner for the General Board Burrito Lottery is:

Elko snapped several losing streaks:
  • 10-game (9 SEC) road losing streak with a 33-20 win at Florida on 9/14/24
  • 7-game road losing streak to Power 5 nonconference teams with a 41-40 win at Notre Dame on 9/13
  • 6-game road losing streak to LSU with a 49-24 win on 10/25
  • 7-game losing streak in November road games with a 38-17 win at Missouri on 11/8
He also has several major accomplishments this year:
  • 11-1 regular season record for the best finish since a 12-0 regular season record in 1992 and best finish in either the Big 12 or SEC
  • CFP appearance for the first time
  • 7-1 SEC record, best finish outside of an 8-1 SEC finish in 2020
  • Undefeated at home for the first time since 2020 and only second time since 1999 and 7-0 home record for the first time
  • 4-1 (3-1 SEC) road record for the first time since 2020. Only the 2012 team had a better road record of 6-0 (4-0 SEC), but 2 of those 6 road wins were against SMU and Louisiana Tech.
If Elko can go at least 9-3 against next year's tougher schedule that features 10 regular season games against Power 4 opponents: 9 conference games and a nonconference game against Arizona State, he will prove that this year's 11-1 finish wasn't just because of a favorable SEC schedule.

Tex117 couldn't have been more wrong about 2025, but rest assured 2026 is now all that matters. Just ignore being 11-1 in the playoffs.

What a joke. It's amazing what an A&M aficionado you now are considering just in July according to your own words

"Usually, it comes in waves. Last year, after the LSU win, hope got the better of me. It had been years since I was hopeful.

I'm back to my old self. I'll have it (Texas A&M football) on if I'm home, but otherwise, meh."

90% of this board predicted 8&4 or worse with 9-3 as a ceiling. Elko's second year and has this program at 11-1

Smart was 8-5 his first year at Georgia (with bowl win)
Elko was 8-5 his first year at A&M (with bowl loss)

Smart was 11-1 his second season (went 2-1 w seccg win one playoff win and loss in nc game for overallrecord of 13-2)
Elko is 11-1, didnt make seccg, about to make A&Ms first playoff appearance ever. .

Up to this point Elko has had equal amount of success, especially considering how bad sec east was in Smarts first two years and there after until 2024 when divisions were done away with. No one, outside of a handful of people, would have ever imagined an 11-1 season in Elkos second year. To say this season has been anything other than a huge success up to this point is ludicrous.

It cracks me up how so many continue to move the goal post. Ags are in the playoffs, let's see what this team does in the second season of 25 where its win or go home.
