I might be in the minority, but I want no part of ND. I don't care if we beat them earlier this year, they are a good football team. Like Mad Dog said yesterday...it is hard to beat a good team twice in a season.

Bama would jump us
BYU would jump us

Tech would not drop below us
Georgia would not drop below us

Right or wrong, a two loss tech would drop below us. Bama would move up to 8. The committee would reward them with a home game.

I could definitely see this as the scenario if BYU wins. I could also see them coming to Kyle. Never know with the idiots on CFP committee.

They are idiots.

Biased idiots.

ND would be out and BYU would be in, Tech would drop out of the top 4 and bama Would jump in if they won.

Not much else would change

If tech and UGA lose

I think it's bonkers to believe BYU can beat tech. Tech smoking them a few weeks ago wasn't an accident. Tech is legit. BYU blows.

Bama can absolutely beat Georgia
Nothing looks more foolish than tradition to those who have none.

Kev Miller- you're absolutely wrong that Tech losing to the #11 team could not drop them back 4 places. That's like saying it was a foregone conclusion that Oregon, Ole Miss, and A&M would have lost to BYU also.

Which is complete bullcrap in the real world.

The Committee does not exist only to rubber stamp the winners ahead of the losers but keep the losers in exactly the same order otherwise. Doesn't work that way. All they indicated is that the extra game would not cost a team a spot in the playoffs, NOT their spot in the "order".

BYU would the have 1 good win on neutral field. versus our good road win. Then the rest of our schedule is way more difficult than BYU's, and BYU lost by 30 points to Tech in an absolute humiliating blowout.

Unless beat them there. Not that I can imagine a BYU team jumping us who lost by 30 points to Tech a month ago. Lol

You're free to mock us cynics, but a committee that upsets its backers doesn't last long.

I agree with your scenario. On the other hand, if BYU loses, they are out. If Bama loses, they also are out. CCG is not a check valve. You can't have the possibility to move up without the possibility of moving down. If they both lose, we play ND at home, and Miami gets in.

This is fake news.

Why do you think bama got moved to 9?

Unless it's just a blowout or BYU wins, bama moves to 10

Last year Arizona State jumped from 15 to 12 winning the Big 12. SMU dropped from 8 to 10 losing the ACC and Clemson jumped from 16 to 15 winning it. BYU isn't jumping 4 spots with a win but Tech isn't dropping 4 spots either.

This is simply inaccurate. No team already in the playoffs will be left out from a ccg loss.

Except no team is "already in." They haven't sent out invites. And that's an issue. It's only a matter of time before a team gets punished for playing (losing) a ccg. If BYU gets smoked again by Tceh, does the committee "keep them in" to preserve the esteem of ccg's they have no loyalty to?

ETA: and this is part of why the sips have been bleeding on every sports show they can. The committee may find themselves comparing ND or sip against BYU for final slots. In that scenario, they'll get to choose option years of criticism from one of the loudest and most connected programs… or a soundbite from Mitt Romney saying "we're disappointed."
Who?mikejones!

Of course no team is already in. Well, Tulane is, but you get the point.

If bama was considered by the committee as "in" yesterday, no situation today will change that.

The only team that possibly might get left at home is notre dame in order to accommodate a byu.

I would smile if ND's insistence that they're too good for a conference (in football) were to bite them. Not expecting, but it'd be poetic justice.

Regardless; this is a prime example of how expansion made the sport worse. It added the drama of high school softball team and nobody is talking "best teams" anymore - just which longshot teams make the cut as decided by a bipolar cigar lounge.

Yeah, they must join a conference.

If uga and byu win, then notre dame is likely headed to the curb.

You'd have

Osu
Iu
Uga
Oregon
Ole miss
Tamu
Ou
Tech
Byu
Bama
Virginia
Tulane

Dame would be left iut because they didn't have a conference championship game to play in

Hypothetical situation. The top 4 P4 teams are ranked 1-4. The second best P4 teams are ranked 5-8. In the CCGs the second best teams all win. How does the does the playoff rankings fall out since CCG losses aren't supposed to hurt you and wins help you?

No one has ever said it can't "hurt" you. It's that you won't be punished for playing an extra game others didn't have to play.

They aren't currently in. Why would they "keep" them anywhere but out if they lose?

If the dollars are what's important, I wonder what impact that would have on student ticket allocation for an A&M home playoff game.
I'm also curious what the base ticket price would be

Just say you don't know how it works. It's amazing how many people comment on these threads and don't even watch or know how college football works . No, they are not falling 4 spots if they lose a conference championship game unless they get beat 60 -0.

Thats my point. The committee has no structural loyalty to ccgs, but having signaled that 11-1 BYU was a top12 team; IF they now exclude an 11-2 BYU the message is clear that ccg's are a playoff liability.

They may not care, but their decision with regards to BYU may determine whether ccg's continue to exist in the future.
