Corruption in the Playoffs

I was shocked to hear the playoff commish openly admit that he had been 'chewed out' over the phone by Nick Saban a few hours before today's selection.
It seems like the committee should have some common sense guardrails in place to prevent corruption in what is an obviously flawed system. ie a 24 communication black out, a live feed from inside the meeting room, etc.

More transparency is needed ASAP.

Wish Saban would have put in a word about us being the lowest ranked 1 loss.

The entire event is made for tv, of espn, by espn, and for espn.

Of course they will follow the orders of their overlords at espn.

I guess the Warby Parker care packages didn't make it to the hotel in time for the big reveal.

Maybe it's Disney. Based on the committee's actions, you'd think they're either corrupt or you have Mickey Mouse and Goofy making the decisions.

I believe that Mickey Mouse and Goofy certainly could've done better than the committee.

The G5 auto bids are causing the great majority of this controversy. I'd imagine if Tulane and JM were replaced by Vandy and ND there wouldn't be so much controversy. The perception of having 2 teams included that are ranked so low that there are about 10 other teams between them and the bracket who are excluded gives a perception of weakness.

I'm was not super bothered by it until Kiffin left. Although it was @ UO, Oregon lost to the #1 team. UGA redeemed their loss by killing Bama. Ole Miss lost @ the #3 team in a competitive game. Tech didn't have their starting QB. tOSU went down to the wire with #1.

I think we should be 6 now that OM has no real HC

They have to do away with auto admits. If someone in your conference cant earn it your out.

I'm sure the committee is praying that Miami and Bama win the first round, but the vast majority of the country will root for them to be destroyed.

Theres no such thing as earning it. Teams are currently given spots

That 1 simple change really does fix the majority of issues. Unfortunately it will never be voted in. The G5 absolutely won't support that.

The G5 is a monster of the Power Conference creation

They were allowed to be "in the same division" so that cupcake games against them could count for for bowl eligibility but it gave them the ability to demand representation for their "champions"

And unfortunately we can't get rid of them because as Tech and ND have shown, playing tough teams is not rewarded while playing the worst of the worst cupcakes is so demand for the bad G5 teams will be astronomical and and thus the political power to demand teams like Tulane and JMU keep taking up spots in the playoff

I know it won't happen but I would laugh so hard if Oregon lost to JMU.

Who cares what the G5 thinks or wants? How do they have any pull at all, other than pity?

The bubble will always be controversial, but the 12-team playoff has been great so far. I strongly prefer this system over the 4-team playoff or BCS.

the SEC and Big 10 don't want to get rid of autobids either.

they are never going away

I still think a play-in game that includes the scrub that would be in against the #13 team to determine the last spot would be the best solution. They get a chance to earn their unearned spot while also giving the first team out a chance to get in as well.

This would shut up all the *****ing while appeasing an additional school. Seems to be a fair compromise.

Has anyone explained what Saban was going to do if bama was left out? Everyone was lobbying for their team.

That's the point. That implies that an *impartial* selection committee is open to being influenced by partisan actors. There is nothing in their selection criteria that that states that the lobbying power of certain individuals will be considered when selecting teams, although it seems pretty clear that is happening, thus the much needed transparency.

The jokes on us by the way. We don't have a Nick Saban to pull strings from behind the curtain on our behalf.

The problem with leaving out G5 is that you would basically make the playoff between SEC and B1G, with maybe a Big XII or an ACC guy tossed in every now and then. Which at that point, just combine the conferences to a single super conference and play the season out with a CCG that determines national champ. Which would be a hard pass for me.

The argument of "well the G5 should play better and be ranked higher" doesn't hold water because unless a G5 team played zero conference games and played nothing but OOC games against SEC or B1G teams, they will never get the votes to be ranked high enough to have a legit shot at being top 12.

I don't have a problem at all with them being included, I actually kind of like it. 98% of the time they are going to get boat raced in round 1, which shows that they should have stayed home. But that 2% where they reach up and punch somebody in the mouth like Boise St. used to do occasionally 20 years ago makes it worth while.

CCG's need to go, or the playoff needs to be set before they are played. I'd prefer to see them just go away though because they serve little to no purpose now and for some teams they are positive, others they are negative - and it's all media bias. So get rid of them, set the brackets based on end of regular season results and start the playoffs then. At some point maybe add play in games, but that's harder to do in football than other sports.

Adding more playoff games may result in class action lawsuit against NCAA. Players on top tier teams are already taking a beating as is.

To include the entirely unnecessary run up complete with weekly dramatic reveals, talking, squabbling, accusations, and constantly shifting criteria.

A Disney company ramping up the feminine drama. Who could have predicted such a thing.

Why? NCAA has nothing to do with the CFP.

Link?

All I can find is that Saban made a smartass comment on the air to Reese Davis, and Hunter made a comment back the next time he was on with Davis.

Do they use similar methods for selection as the March Madness committee? Am I wrong in my perception there isn't near as much controversy surround that process? Is it simply that virtually any team with a pulse gets into the 64 team field?

It's not a playoff. It's an invitational. That's the problem.

Everything falls apart the moment little beotch ND is on the bubble.

Make it a real playoff and you won't have to bother with ND except in rare circumstances

How dare the ACC put their conference members ahead of ND.
