They need to join the "new" PAC-12 starting next year. Doesn't Notre Dame State have a nice ring to it?

Rename the school South Bend State

It won't be the SEC or BIG so it has to be the big12. They'd take them in a heartbeat

Pretty sure the BIg10 would take them in half a heartbeat

You think the BIG would offer a partial membership to help ND athletics without football scheduling? I'm not so sure

IF they are leaving the ACC, they are most likely going BIG 10 as a full member. The BIG offers a national footprint (or close to it) which is something no conference did when they signed the ACC affiliate deal.

Big10 I'm sure is not overly thrilled by the idea. They were on again off again with ND for decades

Today's winner for the General Board Burrito Lottery is:

Ferg is a big ND fan and believes EVERY conference would want them just for the eyeballs and money.

And if that was ALL they brought to the table, would be one thing. But that's not who ND is. Perpetual prom queen throwing hissie when they don't get their way. Sips on even more hormones.

There is this: Notre Dame AD says ACC did 'permanent damage' to relationship with push for Miami over Irish

Maybe this is precipitating an ND-ACC divorce of sorts.

The ACC Network showed the Miami-ND game pretty much on repeat the few days before the selection show. I guess ND didn't care for that.

I guess not! And I can understand their position on that I think. In the end ND will still get their dispensations. This "MOU" that kicks in next year that says they get a playoff spot guaranteed as long as they are in the top 12 means this won't happen to them in the future. Or at least it would be a lot harder. Notre Dame went 0-2 to start the season and only got as low as #24. In four weeks they were #16. Two games after that they were #12 again.

The Irish string together a couple of first downs, and they'll get a first place vote from some voters.

The committee has the chance to do the funniest thing ever dropping them to 13 on the last week of voting next year.

Their AD was doing the rounds before the committee decision saying being independent was in ND's DNA. It's like ND is completely lacking is self awareness.

The conferences should freeze Notre Dame out. Refuse to play them.

They meant FOR football.

But the tweet states ND is looking for a non-football scheduling partner to move their athletics out of the ACC. This is the sweet partial membership deal they have with the ACC. Why would the BIG or SEC accept that agreement without ND football membership? ND will of course never join a conference for football scheduling because they have the NBC TV deal.

And THERE it is....network battle, not a football battle.

ND already has a national footprint.

Hell, they have a worldwide footprint.

Just like Pitbull.

ND and tu should band together and start their own Conference. They could play each other 12 times. And by virtue of only two teams, both get to play in the conference championship game.

No way either one has a good enough record to make the playoffs in that scenario either.

The old AD at ND (Swarbrick, I think) and Dodds shared whiskey, cigars and those fantasies with each other quite often. But in the end, Swarbrick always screwed Dodds. (Unintentional pun, not that unintentional.)

As a IU grad who grew up 4 miles north of ND's campus loving ND football I don't get it the melt. Yeah it sucks they are not in but to me they can't preach they develop men and just quit like they did. Declining a bowl invite because you got snubbed is weak and I don't agree with it. The entire city of South Bend is a full on melt over this including my own wife. The excuses and local media are exhausting. I am hearing rumors of them ditching the ACC now and joining the BIG12. I listened to the AD today on the Dan Patrick Show and it was weak. They need to join a conference and drop the holier than though act.

How much revenue sharing was ND going to do with the ACC if they won it all. That's probably a bif reason the ACC pushed for Miami over ND. And why ND should not have been surprised or upset.

The funniest part in all of this. The stupid ACC tiebreaker rules are the reason Miami was not in the championship game. So not only did the ACC push for Miami to get in, but their dumb rules also hurt Notre Dame.

Never the Big Ten. They still hate Northwestern for the membership veto back when NW was still actually a Methodist school (and they also hate the University of Chicago for their veto, and that school doesn't even PLAY football any more!). Plus, I doubt any of the other B1G schools want another big boy in the yard (OSU, Michigan, Oregon, USC, and now Indiana).

No conference is going to let in ND without a cut of that tasty, tasty NBC money. The Irish can still have Stanford and USC on the schedule, but those will pretty much be the only P4 names if the rest start cancelling contracts.

All this is happening because the committee is ******ed. They had ND in and Miami out. Neither team played and magically Miami jumps ND. I'm not saying ND should be in, but I'd be furious too if that happened to us. Flipping idle teams just to make sure the ACC gets in is bush league.

I was luckily enough to go to the game this year in SB. Was really impressed with ND and Freeman. I get it was jank to have Miami lower the week before, then switch. But their response to this has been terrible, coming accross like a entitled spoiled child. Someone posted the message the Vandy coach delivered, spot on. ND talking about all their national championships while turning down a bowl game. Just wow. I'd hate to be a senior and be robbed of my last game, especially if not going Pro. Someone speculated it was the AD going off the rails, we'll see, everyone likes to watch a train wreck.

It was how this whole thing went down. ND jumped by Alabama after they barely showed a pulse against Auburn then not dropping after Georgia. ESPN making each broadcaster parrot the H2H storyline via UM ND and putting it on loop on ACC tv all friggin day before the final committee meeting. This was ESPN manipulating outcomes to make more money for ESPN entities. Too much power in one tv corporation. ND does have a problem going forward if special treatment is gonna be given to ESPN affiliated teams.

All of the power conference teams should band together and not play Notre Dame. No one needs them. I think only the Miami game was among the top 20 watched this year. And we proved this year there is no advantage to plying them. We won in their house and still finished behind Ole Miss despite the bump in SOR and SOS it gave us. If we dumped them and played Washington St. it would have been a much easier win......and we still would have finished 7th.

Notre Dame fans complaining about special treatment is the height of hypocrisy.

Except head for head is not the rule for everyone. My biggest gripe with the CFP is their inconsistency from team to team on what their reasoning is.

Hard to be consistent when they reach a conclusion AND THEN try to reverse engineer it to justify it.

That bowl has excellent marketing people.

Yes, and that's one of the problems. They made different rules for different teams for different reasons and then trying to change it at the end.

I heard someone today on sports talk radio saying they really shouldn't put out weekly rankings and just wait till the end because then they can justify it more.

When you have people in and out then back and forth, it's more messed up. I think they have a point there.

Yeah but if no interim reporting and just at the end of the season handing out the rankings like the Ten Commandments from God out of the sky? Everyone's head would explode.

ND doubling down on this. "Targeting" them with a social media campaign showing Miami beating ND head to head. Yeah, like that didn't really happen or something. I'd feel embarrassed for them if they weren't such entitled drama queens.
