Other than in the opener against Notre Dame, Miami's offense has seemed to hit a cliff against defenses with a pulse all year long (and they didn't exactly blow the lid off Notre Dame). Ignoring the teams they have played outside of the top 60 in SP+ defense (all blowouts where the third stringers probably played significant time), they have put up the following results:

Team (SP+ rank) Offensive score
South Florida (60) 49
Pitt (51) 38
Florida (45) 26
Florida State (39) 28
SMU (32) 20
Louisville (30) 21
Notre Dame (11) 27

For comparison, Texas A&M has played 7 teams in the top 45 in defensive SP+, and while they have stumbled twice offensively (realy 2.5 times), they have shown a much better ability to take the top off a good defense:
Florida (45) 34
South Carolina (28) 31
tu (20) 17
Auburn (15) 16
Mizzou (13) 38
Notre Dame (11) 41
LSU (9) 49

(Miami's defense is ranked #10 in SP+ and Texas A&M's defense is ranked #21).

I feel like the Aggies will need to score 28 points or more to Win this game.

Believing that Miami will probably score between 21 to 28 points on us.

Half-time Score = Aggies 14 Miami 10

Final Score = Aggies 28 Miami 24

This will be a 4th quarter game...

Nice to see some logic.

Getting old reading these scared posters acting like this Miami team is the 2019 Joe Burrow LSU offense. Man up, win the line of scrimmage and don't turn the ball over and I like our chances all day.

I keep hearing about miami's passing game & the freshman slot

I'm most concerned about getting obliterated by the run again

This 100%. We stop the run we will win.

If we had stop the run vs. Texas it would have been a win.

valid concern even though their running game isn't great. They have a good oline for pass protection. Our defense will need to find a way to get at Beck consistently while watching Toney to make sure he gets tackled as soon as he gets the ball. He has big yards after catch like Craver\Concepcion.
So if we're dropping people into coverage to account for the short yardage passes, that opens up running for them to get 4 yards fairly easily.

I agree too. Keep them in passing situations, we will win.

Facing a 75% passer with over 3000 yards should not be underestimated. Gotta disrupt his rhythm to be successful.

We are good at disrupting teams that are forced to throw . The qb's that hurt us are the ones that can move and can break off big plays or buy time with their legs to find open receivers . Control the opponents run game and get them into passing situations is the right answer for our defense imo. I think we'll have success doing that but they'll still get in the 20's imo.

The other side of that is true as well. Take what they give us . If they stack the box then we'll have open receivers and it will come down to getting them the ball. Have success at that and the run game will open up.

You disrupt his rhythm by stopping the run and getting them in unfriendly down and distances. Much more difficult to call a defense in 2nd and 5 when pass/run is far more unpredictable. Very hard to blitz in those situations and you end up with QB's with a lot of time.

Again 75% passer with 3000 yards against the blind and the deaf defenses of college football.

NC State, VT, and Syracuse are some of the worst defenses in college football. The best defense by far that they faced was Louisville. Followed by SMU and Notre Dame in week 1. The Canes are 1-2 in those games.

Where as I would liken the Miami defense to what we saw against ND, Auburn, Mizzou, LSU, and Texas.

The point is we actually played defenses with a pulse most of the season and went 4-1

We struggle with run fits in our base 4-2-5 scheme, not all the time, but a lot of the times, especially on early downs. I'd like to see us sell out to stop the run and force them to pass. Meaning, York, Scooby and Sanford all on the field in essentially a 4-3 defense on first down. Scooby and Sanford are quick enough to drop into coverage quickly if needed.

that's preposterous! Everyone knows 3rd and 2 calls for a 40 yd pass attempt.

Stupid comment.

Even against the sips our defense was incredible in the first half.

Why is our fan base such whiny little female dogs.

Last time I checked, football games were two halves...

Interesting their team is coming to C-Star today. I remember those 2 day hotel stays did not work out well for Jimbo.

Beck was 71% and 271 yds in the loss against Louisville and 68% w/274 yds in the loss against SMU. I don't really get the whole deaf dumb and blind thing tbh. He's a good QB with outstanding receivers and stats that have been consistent through the season, plus on a win streak coming in. Our pass D is gonna be tested. Points will be scored. We just need one more.
