This is crazy to me that extramarital affairs are really a fireable offense. This is college football, not seminary.

It is a ****ty thing to do and they absolutely deserve it, don't get me wrong, but I feel like the wives should be able to go after the co-eds in civil court. *****s.

It definitely points to a flaw in leadership that should disqualify someone from their current HC position. It's not seminary, but they are in charge of the shaping of a large number of young men.

I think the thing that people are forgetting is that as an employee of the university, you are a representative of said university, and they can fire you if you are not representing,(it), in a positive manner. If you draw unwanted and unflattering attention to said university, they can let you go.

Now, he can try to prove otherwise, but they've got the information on him.

OU has been recognized as the party school of Ohio going back to the 60's with a student ratio of approx. 60% female to 40% male today. Cool place and nice town.

I'm going to say he gets a decent settlement. I think the alcohol thing, appearing drunk at a university event, is more damning in terms of contract violations. Ohio U doesn't appear to have a policy prohibiting consensual employee-student relationships, unless he specifically had something in his contract prohibiting that. If the Code of Conduct doesn't speak to that, Ohio U better hope the drinking thing holds up in court.

Can you believe it? The new development is that he shared a bourbon with the assistant coaches in his office after the game. It's wild that this could cost him his job.

Moore slept with a staffer who was not on the same strata as him, if he slept with a professor or a department head it would have been fine-ish. Universities are worried about litigation from power-imbalances, and it seems there was an obvious quid pro quo when she got a 2x salary increase.

Smith slept with a student. Most colleges have a strict rule not to allow staff to date undergrad students.

While most people have no problem with "Jennifer Sophomore" getting a twinkle in her eye over the 28yo librarian "Kevin," "Kevin" did agree to the terms of his employment. Regardless of any impact a librarian would have on her academic performance.

Are we really expecting him to go out of his way to find a grad or PHD student?

But "Kevin" also is not in a unique position of determining the standards of behavior of everyone in his department, including almost 100 scholarship athletes and hundreds of employees. I think that is important enough that there be fidelity standards in personal life while being employed as the Head Coach. It absolutely overlaps too much for it to not matter.

I've worked at 3 different universities and this has not been the case. Professor - student, of course not. Direct reporting, even dotted line reporting for student workers, (e.g. Major Applewhite) not OK either. But unassociated Professor and student has not been prohibited.
