This is Josh Reynolds 2.0. Everyone couldn't believe we would
Offend our leading receiver by looking for a upgrade, and he left. What will we do?!?! Well we bring in two upgrades.

I love Marcel as a leader and a person based on what I have seen. But as a quarterback he is very Jekyll/hyde week to week and has limited composure under pressure. We will win more than we loose with him, but if the goal is a natty, I agree with others that he isn't the guy to get us there.

Josh Reynolds? You mean Noah Thomas? Josh graduated several years ago.

Yep

Reed could become an elite QB. A lot of issues with mechanics. A great QB coach could improve him.

Need an Oline though.

Lol, the oline was not the issue today when passing.

7 sacks says otherwise

Because Reed was holding the ball or because of a blitz. He had plenty of time and a decent pocket all day. He didn't get it done.

All day? Not sure what game you were watching.

Yes, he had time to throw today.

I think Reed will start next season, but we do need a serious QB competition in the off-season.

Top teams don't have QB competitions anymore. You go out and buy your #1 QB and then hope you have a steady backup if disaster happens.

Elko has a decision to make. Pay Reed or upgrade.

You think he should pay Reed or trade?!

Like it or not there's no way Marcel isn't our starter next year. My BAS says he's another Mond and we won't see anything more than we saw this year, but I'm open to be surprised.

Slightly different in their styles, but overall results the same

We need to upgrade, but we won't for a few reasons.

1. We've made Reed the heart and soul of the team, so it's hard now to go pull somebody else in
2. The risk is you make a very public push for somebody and then lose out and you've now effed up the whole situation

I believe we have to bring in somebody new, but I also think there is zero chance we will do that.

Yep, and my aunt could be my uncle if she had balls…..

Not opening up the QB position to competition next year means that Elko has no balls.

He's a good college QB. He's just not a GREAT college QB that relishes the pressure at the end of the season.

This last month's swoon was largely on him.

That said, great dude. I'm rooting for him to develop the mental toughness part of his game.

He really is a great guy and I like him a lot. The bipolar nature of his play has me baffled. The first 3/4 of the year had me believing he had really turned a corner and who knew what the next 2 years could bring. Now it feels like we're starting over again next year. I hope he finds the coaching he needs for his sake.

I don't guarantee Reed anything. If he bails, AMF. We actually may have our qb on the team. Hart is a phenomenal passer, AND SMART. I am not his relative.
I hate tu. It's in my blood.

Don't disagree with you. But by his own account, he's a streaky/rhythm player. That's all upstairs nonsense. This isn't basketball. And a good QB coach would drill that into him, along with all the fundamentals to help him find his flow every game.

Reed will win you a lot of games but he will not fare well against the better teams .
I would like to see us bring in a portal QB and have a real competition .
If Reed loses, try moving him to WR .

Klein spent too much time trying to turn him into a pocket passer. We should have used him like Georgia Tech used Haynes King. The thing that Reed does best is run we should have been nothing but zone read and RPO

You have seen HK's mechanics, right?

Many of Reed's sideline passes were thrown behind the receiver, causing the receiver to have to turn around to make the catch, which eliminated any chance for YACs.

Reed should be used as RPO dual threat guy - but if he is going to survive a complete season of that he needs to put on 25lb of muscle.

A few solid hits from LB and Safeties and he'll be laid up with injury.

In other words, was Klein trying to make him a better pocket passer for survivability?

Edit - we should bring someone in and let it be a competition.

I'm all for an open competition for the starting QB role. That' being said, I'd take a 3 year starter 3 star with proven talented gifts over a first year starter 5 star. We see time and time again these low recruited, seasoned Qbs that have been starting for 4 years and have gained a ton of game experience giving them this next level game management that you can't really coach. In fact, you could argue that, for some reason, reed kind of already has that. No matter the gravity of the moment he always seemed to operate well mentally. He's not the perfect QB and makes stupid errors but I'd credit those more to him still being above average QB (not elite) and not on anxiety or stress. The moment never felt too big for him mentally. Now, if he doesn't show big signs of improvement and they start dropping games next year I'd bite the bullet and let the next guy start getting his experience started for the following year's campaign. I drank FYI if this seems kinda incoherent.

Not being able to hit a deep pass is one thing. We saw him struggle with it last year and most of this year. Everyone has limitations, and if we need to accept that this was his one major issue, then so be it.

The concerning thing is, he's regressing on hitting even the short easy passes. There were too many throws today that were way too easy that he over/under threw or threw behind his receivers.

When you can't do either of those things you're not gonna be successful as a quarterback. We've had a year and a half of watching Reed now and I feel like if we haven't seen the improvement in even the basic parts of his game. There should be a real conversation on if he can be coached up but the history of his performance is not inspiring confidence.

I love Reed and I really want him to succeed. I just don't think he will.

I really thought he was able to handle the pressure but he just can't. Sucks but it is what it is. Playing QB is hard.
