Only option would be if we brought in a new OC. With wiggins we're stuck with reed.

I'd get rid of him too but the schedule probably doesn't favor a run next year anyway so I bet we don't bother.

I really like Marcel but it seems like opposing defenses have figured him out. Shut down our run game, have an athletic spy to take away the QB run threat and force him to operate in the pocket. He's just not accurate enough to win against good teams. I don't know if he'll develop into that guy? He'll be a fourth year player next season...

Reed needs a really good QB coach. Someone to teach him not to throw off his back foot all game long.

He's got a huge upside. But he needs to fix his mechanics.

I really like Reed but he'll be a 4th year guy next year. This development might never happen. You can buy more accurate passers in the portal right now.

When Marcel is good, he's good. But he will never be consistent enough to be a high level QB

We need a solid backup qb and do what Reed does best run it with him. We need to be a RPO play action team. Reed isn't good enough to be a straight pocket passer.

He must be replaced. He can't operate against zone out of the pocket.

If we keep Reed until his senior year I fear we won't see another CFP appearance. At some point we have to be cut throat with our players, even the QB (for gods sake we pay them money now!!). He had one game against ND.

What we have is a mobile QB with massive accuracy issues in an era we NEED to be dominate. Just don't see that happening with Reed.

Just don't post a Marcel has resigned if he does....those social media posts are nonessential and just stir up the masses.

This is about to be 2026. There are programs that are willing to pay money for Reed, though less than what he likely is pulling now. He will not go hungry. And if he's old-school and bleeds maroon, then God love him, he'll understand the need to accept a lower salary for the good of the entire team and to be that seasoned QB2 who might be able to step in when all is otherwise lost.

So aside from Lagway, who else is out there?

Vanderbilt QB was a Heisman finalist.
Vanderbilt needs a new QB.

Reed is a good, but not great QB. Maybe he continues to improve with maturity. He is Kellen Mond 2.0. Mond was a good not great QB that got better each season and Reed is tracking ahead of him slightly in year 1 of full-time starter.

We absolutely need a QB2 to push Reed and to eventually succeed him. Not really confident in the rest of the QB room based upon limited action and HS resumes coming in.

Please explain why this MUST be the case. I like Reed as a person. He seems to be a fine young man with great characteristics and good character. While these are admirable traits in a college QB, performance is ultimately how Reed and other QBs are measured.

Reed graduated from a private high school with 850 students in grades 7-12. He had no competition before earning the starting QB role at Montgomery Bell Academy.

In Texas alone, there are 247 schools in the 6A classification (2275+ students), many of which are football powerhouses with top notch quarterbacks who play high quality football in high intensity and high pressure games. These QBs know how to win in big games before they attend college. No offense, but MBA isn't on the national radar ... nor should it be if you're recruiting a big time QB with performance-based credentials.

We knew what we getting with Reed. His recruiting profile reads as follows:

"Possesses adequate height for the position at 6-foot-1 and 175-pounds, appears to possess growth potential to add additional weight to his frame. (potential / additional weight to his frame) (this has essentially remained unchanged).
Displays good athleticism in the pocket and above average mobility as a runner (agreed).
Displays good foot quickness and setup in the pocket (not true).
Active mover, demonstrates some quick twitch movement ability to extend plays within the pocket (agreed).
Displays a quick release with the ability to get the ball out from a variety of angles (not true).
Shows the ability to change his arm slot with or without his feet set (hmmmmm ... not true).
Live arm, shows the ability to make every throw on the field (not true).
Balls either out quick or he's fleeing the pocket to extend the play (agreed, if permitted to do so).
Flashes some touch and accuracy on the deep ball (untrue).
Has completed 54% of his passing attempts over the last two seasons (totally believable).
Possesses some raw tools at the next level to develop into a multi-year starter at a Power Five program as scheme fit will be important for his trajectory." (raw tools - agreed)

In my opinion, Reed has peaked, and this has nothing to do with his athleticism. It seems that this is mostly due to what's between his ears. The SEC is big time football most weeks (even when the Aggies play the bottom feeders). Coming into games mentally ill- or unprepared can doom an entire team. If Reed is the QB next year, Elko needs to make sure a sports psychologist pays some serious attention to him ... beginning early next semester. If this doesn't happen, we should expect more of the same.

Ignoring that something has mysteriously happened since the first half of the South Carolina game would be naive at best and foolish at worst. Elko MUST address this issue in the off season. If he doesn't, it's on him, not Reed.

Why doesn't Reed get that coach on his own time and dime in the offseason? Johnny did. Reed gets paid enough to pay that coach, if that coach exists, and it would be in Reed's future financial interest to make the investment.

I was hoping Oneill would have more reps. Yes he didn't look great at times when he was in but too small of a sample size. If you are not an elite starting QB and have no heat too keep your job this is what we get...

Reed is our QB. We're not in a situation where we're in QB limbo and need to bring in someone that has experience to take over. The real test will be can whoever develop him into an elite qb next year. You know if Reed went anywhere he'd probably have a heisman season. Kyler Murray 2.0

Mond was way better. Bigger faster and more accurate. What Mond was bad at was processing the D and going through reads. But in a two minute drill where he didn't have to think, he was a beast. The fault there was never bringing in a OC who could work with that (and there are a ton at the college level)

Reed is small and inaccurate. Hes had some good moments, but you can't just fix those two things

I think Reed has hit his ceiling with A&M. Could he get a little better with a different team? Yeah probably, but he has done all he can do here. I don't think he is an NFL guy in any system, but he should probably go elsewhere if he wants to pursue that path

When it all comes down to it, he is an inaccurate 6 foot 1, 180 pound QB. None of that will ever change.

Reed is best when he runs the ball and when teams are unprepared, but for some reason we have completely abandoned that part of his game (Reed running except when the play beaks down) and ALL other teams have plenty of game film to be prepared. He has peaked at A&M and will actually probably regress next year.
