People told me this guy was special. I've seen is fade two seasons in a row where we've been whipped at the point of attack in losses (this year at tu and Miami). And our stud DEs fade out in this games (last year Scourton.. this year Howell). Is he that special? If so, then why don't our lines finish the season strong? Why do we start the year great and then start getting beaten at the point of attack as the season winds down? Shouldn't your S&C program build guys that go strong deep into the season???

DL never really got beat at the point of attack. Miami couldnt run at all until midway through the 4th quarter. And like usual for us, it was because we had bad run fits, LB's lined up in bad spots and getting out leveraged, or missed tackles on the outside.

4-2-5 weak Eagle front is why everyone had been able to run to the short side on us. Nothing to do with strength and conditioning or honestly really fits (a little). It's a numbers game and we get outnumbered a lot to that side.
I'm also fairly certain we let them score on that play because we did the math and realized at the very least they'd run another 40 second off the clock and leave us with very little time. The defense played well enough to win the game. We were never shoved around by Miami on defense.

Their RB ran for 172. Take out 56 Ann's it's still 116 on 16 carries. That's 7 ypc. And our OL got thrashed. Couldn't run block or protect. So our D had 6 TFLs so they weren't a total
zero but when it was time to buckle down in the 4th, we faded.

I was staring at the stats on the scoreboard all game. Miami had like 90 rush yards going into the 4th quarter. Almost all of their success one the ground came in the 4th. Even then, it was busting big runs, not a methodical mashing where our DL got beat, that got them their success. The D-line was one of the better units last night.

They had about 4 or 5 big runs for 25+ yards or more each. Other than that they were not picking much up on the ground. We are susceptible to the explosive run but are solid the rest of the time against the run. This was not the reason we lost the game. It's also a decent trade-off since we almost totally shutdown their passing game which was far more dangerous.
Everyone seems to be completely ignoring that our OL completely sucked in every aspect of the game yesterday.
I think its scheme.

Chris Taylor says we got pushed around last two games. Now it's happened two years in a row. Looks like a legit concern to me.
Lack of dedicated identity on offense can cause this. They didn't fade. Just got confused

Black Death did well. Defenses were on the field too long in those years. Moffitt's doing fine.
I wouldnt go to blame Moffitt, he put a lot of good into our players. A lot of it was matchup and scheme.
This isn't the problem look at yoy. We were way better this year and less injuries. Not a good take.
I'm not really thinking about S&C after last two games. QB play and offensive scheme lost us this game. UM's D-line was known to be a strength and they were tough to run on. I thought the pass protection held up well enough to make some plays but Reed was too jittery in the pocket and that made the protection look worse than it was. Klein just failed us big time.
At the beginning of the year A&M knew it had a depth problem at DT. When Albert Register went out Miami ran right up middle just like the sips.

Miami's major success on the ground came after Regis got knocked unconscious. His absence was major.

Jerry Schmidt. He's very good, but I don't think he's any better or worse than Moffit.
Moffitt is the best in the business.

Miami stacked the box on us. 8 beats 7 every time, and they could do it because they knew Reed couldn't take the top off with consistent long throws even with no wind. They also clogged up the shorter 5-10 yard routes for this reason.
Even the one long pass completed to a wide open Craver was off target with a circus catch.
S&C and mental toughness was the best its been since 2012, and a lot of that back then was due to Sherman.....you'd be a fool to let Moffitt go.

I can promise you the S&C coach is important, but their impact is often overblown to one extreme or the other.

You can't win with the OL play either. Multiple false starts, 7 sacks, less than 100 yds rushing. Don't ignore how awful the OL was in every aspect of this game. Reed wasn't good either. They equally sucked.
