No business in America would allow a highly paid person in the C suite to take another job while remaining employed nor would you be permitted to take staff with you. In fact during Covid many companies caught people working two jobs and fired them.

The actions taken by Klein put coach Elko in a no win situation and should never have been permitted.

The AD's have no idea or no power to write proper contracts. Klein should be required to return the money he was paid for 2025.

Klein also demonstrated to the players a brand of situational ethics, in which you can steal time that should be committed to your employer if it is your supposed dream job. This led to QB Reed admitting he would think about voiding his commitment if the money was large enough.

Decisions like this diminish the quality of the sport and the entertainment value to the people that pay for it.
You cannot call plays if you are fatigued from working two jobs and have divided loyalty. Only the foolishness of CFB believes such non-sense.

In the NFL this scenario is not permitted because it is governed by the basic rules of business. Even HS football is regulated with smarter people.

Bad take, and poor analogies. He wasn't sneaking around, and Elko could have cut him. He likely was allowed to stay because they wanted continuity going into the playoffs. Bad results don't necessarily equal unethical actions.

Are you blind to not notice how many team were affected by this in the playoffs??? Such a ridiculous take. 14 coaches!!!! Not all got to coach the playoffs but most of them did.

Don't blame Klein for weakening the sport. College football is very effed up right now with the transfer portal and timing of transactions and coaching decisions during championship runs. Klein did what 99.99% of America would do... take the bigger paycheck and have a chance to go home to your dream job...

If he was doing work for another job while on state time without properly noting it (as he is a state employee), there could be ramifications if someone wanted to pursue it.

Put yourself in Kleins shoes. He's leaving his current job as a play caller/designer and coordinator. He's already got his next job signed and locked up. He may try to coach a good game, but he's not going to show us anything new. No creative trick plays or anything other than what he's shown on tape so far. He's now got to think of his next job security. If he had ANYTHING up his sleeve, he wasn't going to pull it out for this team.

I can just speak to my own experiences at work. It is extremely hard to focus when you have something really good or really bad going on in your personal life or if you have other big fish frying at work where you are trying your best to focus on the priority but have other looming equally big priorities distracting you.

Alot of people had the foresight to think keeping him for the game was a bad idea. I had faith it would work out but in retrospect I think Elko should have said thanks but no thanks.

Klein and Kiffin have very little in common and the situations were very different . Klein took a promotion to hfc at his Alma mater and I can't see how anyone could begrudge him for it . Kiffin was already a hfc and Ole Miss reportedly said they'd match whatever was offered elsewhere . Kiffin allowed and encouraged the circus around his "recruitment" . I hope Klein succeeds and Kiffin fails miserably .

With regard to Klein finishing out his employment here , that was and should have been up to Elko and him. I can definitely see the case for continuity and I can also see the case for moving on so your'e sure the focus is up to the task. Elko made his call and it probably wasn't an easy choice to make . I don't think the loss to Miami is altogether on Elko or Klein. They can't make blocks , catches , passes , runs , cover receivers , or make tackles . You win and lose as a team.

Bro, don't be salty. He literally took another job. We decided to retain him as our best option in that moment and he decided, amongst other obligations that he wanted to continue with his current employer through the end of the season. Everything was above the table.

It's not ideal, but to make this some sort of character attack is ridiculous.

Never wrote he was sneaky
He took a job before he finished
He only had one good season and used it for his advantage

His actions may be permissible but his actions were not profitable to the season or to the game.
The score of 3 points at home says everything.

For the person asking how much money I made to justify Klein, there all sorts of people who make more money putting themselves first.

It was a joint decision approved by all parties involved. Ideal? No. Best of all possible alternatives, sadly probably so. Reality in the current NCAA Football environment and won't change significantly any time soon.

I may be old school here. But, with regard to employees who turn in their resignation after taking another job, I'm a fan of turning the '2 week notice" into a "22 minute notice". Once they've resigned, they're already one foot out the door. Just cut their check and collect their keys and move on.

Football coaches are salesman who figured away to make 10s of millions of dollars while under performing and they stick together like the thieves they are.

Our current coach just got a contract for $72 million win or lose and proceeded to drop the two biggest games of the year.

We fans across the nation are told to sit down and suck up a $25 chilli dog and give more else we will get behind…lol at us.

Comparing Collin Klein to Lane Kiffin is ridiculous because their situations are very different. Klein accepted a promotion to become a head coach at Kansas State, his alma matter, but Mike Elko allowed Klein to stay to because he wanted continuity for the playoffs. In contrast, Kiffin took another head coaching job with LSU, one of Ole Miss's annual opponents after leading Ole Miss to their first-ever 11-1 season.

OP thinks Kiffin should be sequestered to Ole Miss because those in charge of NCAA/CFB have no idea how to create structure that actually makes sense.

If you want to be upset, point at those making the rules, LSU, or KSU. Both coaches are trying to reach their goals in life and put their families first.

I'm not sure anyone would complain about Klein taking the KSU job, good for him. I am also sure than no one with a brain thought letting a lame duck OC stay to coach in, probably, the BIGGEST game in Kyle Field history. It was a MAJOR **** up not running his ass off after season .

Klein did nothing wrong but college football should consider moving to what the NFL does regarding hiring coaches that are still in the playoffs. You have to wait until their season is over to even start the process. I know there are other things that would need to be changed to pull that off like early signing day being moved back but they should look into it.

It wasn't just one problem, but having Klein stick around, definitely contributed to the issues we had on offense. Defense had the same problems we had all year - weak in the middle and susceptible to the run.
