They need to play the second round at home of the higher seed as well.

Asking fans to travel to up to 3 random bowl games is just a non starter for the rest of us who don't have more money than god.

What are you talking about? Asking Oregon/Tech fans to go to Miami, Bama/Indiana fans to go to Pasadena, and Ohio St/Miami fans to go to Dallas makes perfect sense.

Long flight from Oregon and Tech doesn't have a huge fan base/doesn't travel well.

Cotton Bowl would've loved to have Tech instead of Ohio St

The Cotton Bowl was sold out. They got their money.

Not contesting the bold part... But... Did Miami lose money on the deal? The schools have allotments they're required to buy from the bowls then the remaining tickets go up for sale directly through the bowl.

LOTS of Ags bought CB tickets directly thinking we were going to win, then dumped them at a loss or ate them entirely on the secondary markets. Once Miami could sell/buy their allotment there were plenty of cheaper seats flooding the secondary sites.

Ohio fans had 3 weeks to make their plans.

So yeah, Jerry and the CB got theirs...

To the greater point of the thread... Yes, in regards to the playoffs as a whole it's A LOT of travel to ask fans to make. Seeing what College Station did to hotels...

I still say move the bowls to Week 0 and play them with full coaching staffs and full rosters to start off the season. For teams that play them it's a 13th regular season game. What if you play the game but tell teams that for end of season determination they can "drop" a game like the prof that lets you drop your lowest quiz grade.

Disney and the bowl committees are the enemy that needs to be destroyed. In addition to rules changes that will take an act of congress. Can't fix CFB until that happens.

1. 16 team playoff. First two rounds on campus. NY6 bowls trade off on the 3 semifinals and finals games. Every round is bumped up a week and byes are eliminated. (bowl committees will hate this and we give them no choice)

2. Fix scheduling and seeding: 9 conference games. 1 P4 non-conference game. 2 G5 games. Eliminate FCS games and just give them money…….at-large seeds are determined and ranked by computer based predictive rankings (Disney would hate not having that joke of a CFP rankings show)

3. Most of the other bowls need to go away. Schools, players and traveling fans don't want them. Only TV fans, Disney and bowl committees want them. (Disney owns half of them and would hate this, bowl committees would fight this kicking and screaming too)

4. Keep the spirit of the House Settlement. Make college football athletes a special class of students/athletes/employees and have them sign contracts. Allow one portal transfer per player. Player gets a 2nd transfer as a senior if they graduate or another one if their coach changes. (This would require an act of congress)

5. The P4 commissioners need to join together to negotiate TV deals. None of the conferences are getting what they deserve compared to what viewership costs for other sports. (Disney and all the other networks would hate this)

Why should bowl games go away if people want go watch them?

Bowls can stay, but I think they should have no part of the playoffs, and if they are going to be in the postseason for non-playoff teams, they should guarantee that no school loses money on the trip.

There was an estimate that Oxford received a $73 mm economic impact for hosting their playoff game.

Playoff games on campuses get much higher ticket prices, have much higher ticket demand, have only 1 team that travels, reducing the cost, and most importantly, they reward the regular season.

There is so much more money and fan interest to have games on college campuses, the question is why do the conference commissioners maintain them in the playoffs (besides the championship game). They are either ignorant or they are getting kickbacks.

Ok. Good for the conference I guess. Very Big XII & tu of them.
That's not my point. I was only referring to ticket sales and the Miami allotment. Again, since that's the primary point of this thread!

The CFP gets all the home game ticket revenue, not the schools. They give the schools money for hosting though.

It's pro football now, NIL and transfers have ruined it. Opting out of games too. 17 and 18 year old high schoolers demanding and getting millions for never playing a down sits wrong with people. Then it's the highest bidder gets my talents each year after that. Too much roster turnover these days and you can't get users to a player sticking around. Conference realignment has screwed things up too. It's year to year football now and it sucks.

I love the Ags and college football is my favorite over the nfl for the traditions, rivalries, and pageantry but my attitude is changing. I don't watch near the amount of games I used to.

I'll go yell at a cloud.

Especially making Oregon/tech travel to damn Florida and Indiana/Bama to travel to California. Both on opposite ends of the states for both fanbases.

If they would have seeded us 5th and made the quarterfinal the Cotton Bowl, could have had a huge turnout.

Yep

I bet the playoffs are still getting g good tv ratings but asking fans to travel to far away destinations Up to 3 times is asking too much

They need to move round 2 to campuses and only have the semis and final game at neutral sites

I think a lot of Bowls support one charitable cause or another.

Plus, I am retired and I got plenty of time to watch football, so why not ? I can watch old Gunsmoke reruns during the off season. Ain't nobody making anybody watch the games.

I also do not buy the story that teams lose money on bowl games, sorry if I missed some proof of that. I've only seen a few posters toss that out as if it were a fact.

I think many are like me. Went to the CFP game in Kyle. Had plans but didn't make the cut for cotton bowl tickets, didn't apply for fiesta bowl, didn't make the cut for the NCG tickets in Miami.

I considered going to the Cotton Bowl as it's close abou the same travel time as College Station, wasn't going to spend the money it took to get to Arizona, would definitely go to the NCG.

Next year I will probably skip all post season games and just save my money to make the NCG should we make it.
Interesting. I didn't make the cut for Cotton or Fiesta but did get championship game tickets reserved. Go figure.

I lose interest when teams that screwed the pooch are deemed worthy to pursue a national championship for the sole purpose of greed, not merit.

I suspect when it comes to the playoffs you'll have full stadiums the first round and get championship. Otherwise, people are going to sit out the middle rounds, saving their money incase they make it to the championship. Most people can't afford to go to random places around the country each week for 6 weeks. Those that can have that kind of money because they make better financial decisions than to do that

Playoff bowls are too $$ and time consuming for most fanbases to fill these stadiums.

Try this-

- Top 8 teams ranked by average between AP poll, Coaches poll, and Committee

- No more Conference championship games

- No auto bids

- Quarters and Semis on higher-ranked teams' campus

- National Championship game at neutral site (rotate between, Rose, Fiesta, Cotton, Sugar, Peach, Orange)

- No playoff games on any NFL days

All other bowls to everyone outside the Top 8.

How about not putting NFL games on a day that College plays on? As well, why is the National Championship game on a MONDAY night and not SATURDAY prime time?

Treating CFB like the EPL solves so many problems and likely produces a much improved revenue stream:

2 national tiers of 30ish teams, couple more tiers of regional tiers.

Bowl games - relegation from the bottom 4 teams, losers are relegated from top 4 tiers. That's 8 lower quality bowls.

Playoffs at home stadiums until semifinals for top 4 tiers. That's 12 higher quality bowls.

Players sign contracts. Contracts can be loaned to programs. I.E. a $5 million QB on a team that gets relegated and that team can no longer support the contract.

Like it or not, the NFL is the king. A regular season NFL game (doesn't even matter who is playing) will outdraw pretty much every college game other than the national championship game.

The cowboys/chiefs Thanksgiving game had almost 60 million viewers.

NFL only plays games on sat late in the year, so you are saying pointless regular season NFL games are more important than CFP games?

You could easily do the 2 divisional NFL games at noon and 3 and do the National Championship at 6:30, full day of football, but that would require the NFL actually work to help prop up college football instead of always running it over.

see above. NFL and its tv partners have no reason to move its game times.
