Forget about the rivalry aspect for now. Texas is usually a good football team. We play them again the last game of the season. Late losses are more damaging than an early loss. Elko has lost to Texas two years straight. We get Texas on Kyle Field next year. Losing to them for the third straight year ( two losses would be on Kyle ) is unacceptable and damaging to our program. We compete against them for recruiting and portal acquisitions. It is not just another faceless opponent. Flame away, but I think Elko's future will be determined on T+1 2026.

Outcomes of football games no longer matter for recruiting. If we can offer the player more money than Texas can, he'll come play for us. If Texas offers more money, he'll go play for the Horns. Times have changed when it comes to recruiting. Typically, kids no longer go to a school because he or she has been a lifelong fan. They're going to go to a school where they can make the most money. Rivalries, game results, family ties, geography, etc. don't matter like they used do. It's all about the cash these days. Hard stop. End of story.

Circular post. Texas is just another SEC school now. Would you be saying the same thing if it were that we played a rotating SEC school last game of the season (one year LSU, another Auburn, etc.). I think the fact you say "forget rivalry" but then put too much weight on this to the point you think Elko's future is at stake is telling.

I personally don't care about Texas now. They are just another school with tshirt fans, crappy game day, arrogant for no reason, etc., just like several other schools I can think of. So yea, they are faceless to me, and in the same group of schools I hate. No special hate for them in this regard.

Sure, late season losses are not ideal. But it has been and always will be a question of who you lose to. We weren't knocked out of the CFP by losing to them Sure, we didn't go to the SEC title game because of that, but it had nothing to do with "late season loss" (it was simply the head to head tie breakers).

No flame - your post simply makes no sense and is all about "the rivalry" in your mind. Elko is fine. I he went 11-1 every year, with the loss being to Texas and us going to the CFP every year (and sometimes the SEC title game depending on head to heads), I would take that. No special concern in my mind that it was to Texas.

Well, we better care about Texas. It is a huge game at the end of the regular season. If we cannot beat Texas on Kyle Field, we will never win a championship going forward. It is not just another game for multiple reasons, some of which I pointed out. Then there are Aggies who are just happy to gather at Kyle in the fall. Losing taints that for me.

tu sometimes has a decent amount of wins.

They are constantly consistently overrated. They have an overinflated ego due to success 55+ years ago.

Otherwise, I'd be fine never hearing or seeing anything about them, much less playing them.

Don't get me wrong. I have a nostalgia for the game. Prefer we win. But frankly they do not occupy space in my head anymore. And I like that.

I disagree with your comment though. Again, if you guaranteed me we would go 11-1 every year with the one loss to Texas, I would take that in a heartbeat. Look at how many 1 loss SEC teams went to A) the title game and B) the CFP this year. A loss to Texas doesn't hold any magic in these scenarios. As others have pointed out, it doesn't even matter for recruiting anymore. Of course, I would rather go "Bama Dynasty" and go undefeated in conference every year, but again, it has nothing to do with Texas and everything to do about our probabilities to go to the CFP, head-to-heads with ANY SEC school, etc.

As I stated, forget the rivalry. That's not my point. Like it or not they are a national brand team and our last game every year. We will not be successful as a program losing to them to end the year, which we have now done two straight years.

By successful, I mean championships. We have not had a championship for 28 years. And no national championship for 87 years. Let that sink in. I don't give a damn about 10 or 11 wins without a championship. 72 years of Aggie football will do that.

This was a good year. A better year. But not a great year, because no championship. Losing the last game of the season contributed to no championship. It negatively impacted our seeding right or wrong, it just did and always would. Texas is going to be that last regular season game for the foreseeable future.

We have had zero playoff experience and zero conference or national championship experience since 1998. I'm not sure how it wasn't a very good to great year given that.

The loss to Texas is just a trigger for our fan base. It's not that important if you win 11 other games and just lose that one.

The loss to Miami was winnable at least 55 of 60 minutes. Pretending it was a disaster is overdone.

We have 3 NCs. Our 3 are as valid as anyone's. tu claims one where they lost their bowl game badly.

It's a big game for Elko. Losing it would certainly hurt his fan support and make things tougher, but stop making blanket statements. If we lose to them to close out a 7-5 season, that's a really bad sign and it's going to be hard to have much confidence moving forward. If we lose to them and finish 10-2 making another playoff while winning 10 games in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 1994, there's be no reason to give up hope on the program under his tenure. That would be purely emotional and nothing more.

So yeah, it's a big game, but no reason to use hyperbole. Ryan Day lost to Michigan 5 straight times and won a NC during the season he lost for 5th time.

Making the playoffs, winning 10 games, all more important than that one individual game. Of course, winning it gives you a better chance at both, but losing it doesn't doom you as a program.

I hate tu, it's in my blood also. I grew up in CS and have seen them whip us too many times and have seen those obnoxious SOB'S priss out of Kyle Field taunting us. The only coach that was able to turn that around in my lifetime of 78 years was Jackie Sherrill. I've read two of your replies in this post and agree with everything you say. '70

The AP NC use to be awarded before the bowl games, the 1939 team was NC before the Sugar Bowl with the final AP poll being released on December 11, 1939

Embarrassing. 2 awarded by different third parties randomly by an entites that werent in existence until 40+ years after the fact.

We didnt even claim them until recently.

this is one reason why many of the smart folks on texags lamented the sips joining the SEC

A&M will end its season each year vs. a top 3 or top 5 payroll opponent -- and that is not ideal

and as the OP mentioned...late losses are the most costly

Nah, stop saying that. There is ALWAYS more to the story.

There are always kids that will go to the school of their parents, etc. It's not all about the money. Some go for a particular coach or system where they think they can have the best chance to get to the next level (and yeah, that's money too, but delayed gratification).

Are they in the minority? Yeah, sadly these days they are. But they do exist.
