This place thought we were just going to blow it all up, move on from Reed and try to find something better in the portal.
"blow it all up"…. Like find a better QB?

Some of yall are insufferable. First loyal quarterback that lasted a whole season without injury in 5 years. He's been here since 2023.

Players that actually WANT to play HERE instead of for the highest bidder is extremely rare, especially for the QB position.
"Loyal QB"…. What is loyal about him that wasn't about our former QBs who were equally as loyal minus a couple kids 10 years ago who disliked Sumlin.

I think Reed needs to drop the whole Gingerbread man thing, keep quiet and just play. Just my opinion but he needs to give up trying to be a dropback passer and use his legs alot more, that is his lane. He is inaccurate downfield and at this point that isn't going to magically change. He is a capable college QB as long as he sticks with what he is good at, use his legs, short to intermediate passes and let the WR get YAC. Complement with a better running game and we will be okay. Just expressing my opinion.
Problem is he often sucks at passing on the run. He throws it at their feet, even moving to his right.

Not surprised. He's getting paid well. I just hope the next coord schemes to his players strengths.
And what would that be? He can't even hit the open WRs.

Are you familiar with Mendoza and his story? Chambliss and the Ole Miss story?

Both QBs transferred in for the 2025 season

You could also end up with the Nico Iamaleava sotry.

John Mateer did not look very good for most of the year.

Jackson Arnold was horrible.

There's not a guy that I can say with 100% certainty will be better, but it's not a very high bar and is worth trying (in my opinion).

Let's go over this again.

1. Last 5 years. Where the transfer portal has transformed into a monster. You can't count the QBs before Kellen Mond because CFB is unrecognizable from what it was back then. Transferring wasn't a thing. Players were expected to stay 3-4 years.
2. "Loyal" meaning didn't transfer
3. Didn't get injured during the season.

In the last 5 years, here are the QBs we've had.

Kellen Mond
Haynes King (injured 1st game of 2021)
Zach Calzada (transferred after 2021)
Haynes King (injured off and on 2022, transferred after 2023 season)
Max Johnson (injured off and on 2022)
Conner Weigman (injured in 2023)
Max Johnson (injured in 2023, transferred after 2023 season)
Jaylen Henderson (transferred after 2024 season)
Marcel Reed (played the bowl game 2023 after Jaylen Henderson went down)
Conner Weigman (injured off and on, transferred after 2024 season.)
Marcel Reed (played off and on 2024, played all of 2025 and led the team to an 11-2 season, intends to return in 2026)

It's really not that hard to understand. Enjoy what you have.

Sign him up for a class on parabolic geometry.

Then spend the entire summer throwing passes through moving tire swings, and dropping them in trash cans at distance.

And gaining 20 pounds would also help.

And nobody ever at any point say the words "heis" or "man" in close proximity to one another, to keep that stuff from going to his head.

once again i am sure i am in the minority but i am glad reed is back. i saw him change from a game manager qb to a qb who can lead a team most of the time. he developed this year regardless of his last few games. i personally believe he is very similar to jayden daniels and if you look at both there progressions there is a lot of similarity and reed has played better competition up tbis this point beciase jayden daniels started his first few years at ASU we need to surround him with talent and a good offensive line but if he can take another leap this year i think he will be pretty damn good.

he needs to work on his lower half, deep throw tough and just continued recognition of defenses.

i would also add that elko is lucky everyone perceives marcell as the reason why we lost to both texas and miami and not our defense who was gutted on the ground the last two games much like last year.

Miami scored 10 points (and Reed turned it over 3 times). Our defense was not gutted. What game did you watch?

It seems like a great time to keep your head down and focus on improvement. Even if he doesn't think he lost us the Miami game, he should realize a lot of fans have reasonable cause to believe that. And yet, he has the audacity to release a post stating "I'm back" as though he was considering leaving. This seems like the first sign of off the field immaturity.

After his last game he really needed to have a Tim Tebow moment.

I know this is not going to happen and will not be received well, but...
Marcel should consider another position on this team.
I can't imagine him being drafted as a QB.
He has not been impressive or consistent in his throwing ability.
IMO...he is just not NFL material at QB.
He's fast and elusive so maybe at WR. Just needs to learn and have some play time at the position.
He and KC compare favorably when it comes to physical size so I think it could work.

Completely expected

He's not going to the NFL this year

He's good enough that the staff won't actually try to replace him

But not good enough yet that he can lead us to a title

Everyone is banking on him taking a big step forward this off season because there's no real alternative

It's not hard.
It would be incredibly helpful to have the ability to run him more. That's his X factor.
But he's 170 pounds (maybe) and will get snapped like a twig.
So his most dangerous weapon then becomes limited in its usage, and I think it's pretty clear we can't rely on his reads and his throws.

So yeah, all things considered, it's not a great situation.

If we're serious about winning the big games, we need to have players at every position that pique the interest of NFL scouts.
Especially at QB.
And if we don't, we need to be looking to upgrade, however it happens.

Sums it up well.

I think he's going to make a huge improvement next year. Even though Klein is gone, we'll run the same offense under Wiggins so Reed will already have two years in the system. Hopefully whatever mechanical issues he got will be fixed and we can see his accuracy numbers go up. Maybe not drastic but a slight uptick in completion % would not be surprising.

Something as simple as play calling to someone's strength can make a huge difference. Interested to see what Wiggins does with him.

I have wondered if there is some sort of agreement or understanding between the coaching staff and Reed's father that his running will be deemphasized in favor of trying to make him a drop back passer. If he is to play in the NFL, it would be as a drop back passer, they don't favor QBs who have to run a lot in professional rank.

I would often roll him out, have him go through a couple of progressions, then take off running or just throw it away.

I'm sure we overpaid for an average QB with potential. It's the Aggie thing to do, so it might as well be Reed. Wishing him the very best.

We've had multiple opportunities to play for a title and in all of them our QB froze up and played like utter garbage

But let's hear your amazing predictions for next year

Much has previously been mentioned - Reed may share some of the blame for inconsistent offense performance, but his previous OC (Klein) did him no favors: a) Trying to turn him into a primary pocket passer b) Not getting Reed mobile enough for designed QB run or short/ intermed. yard pass plays c) Not developing any consistent running game/ OLine play. When watching bubble screens called against Miami Defense: I knew we were in trouble (like Spavital trouble). Reed is serviceable and can still put up some good numbers - need an OC/ QB Coach that can recognize his strengths and help him in the backfield by developing a semblance of a running game.

The SAME kind of play calling ain't gonna get it done, especially with our much more difficult schedule.
Paul Pierce Ag
How long do you want to ignore this user?
We better get ready for the same type of playcalling. Wiggins will likely run an offense closer to the 2018-2021 Bama offenses that he was a part of. Similar to what Klein was doing. Why? It wins championships when executed correctly

Our QB will be asked to operate this offense. Y'all Marcel truthers better hope he quadruples the "improvement" he made from last year to this one
