I dunno what that costs but it doesn't seem particularly cost effective imo. What's it really do for your program?

He's a guy that has sold four companies for $16 billion and another on tap.

I should be so foolish. If he gets a 1% return every year on $5 billion net worth, he's bringing in $50 million a year. And there's no way he's only getting a 1% return.

It sells stuff but what are they selling advertising a portal transfer on Times Square?

I was not the one calling him a fool. It's Red Raiders that have known him from childhood I know calling him that.

Oh they love his money but just bc you have money does not mean you are not a fool.

Him wasting money on a portal transfer announcement in NYC does show they probably know what they are talking about.

Ad in Times Square, photos of ad on social media, and three page thread on here. The initial intent of the ad has worked so far (exposure).

See that "Lift Sports Management" logo next to the Tech logo…

But what does the exposure get them in this case?

I didn't see the "Lift Sports Management" logo btw until you pointed it out

It could piss off the democratic socialists or the muslims holding their prayer sessions in Times Square though.

"Hey we got our NIL client a $5 million contract", or "There is a West Texas billionaire with a hard-on for a NC throwing money at any talent in the country". Lift's HQ is in NYC

Also, at least this ad satisfies the "NIL" part of the contract.

I could tell you about that but would have been odd since I was referring to someone questioning Tech's season.

I don't mean to derail or hijack the thread, but what is up with this? Bud Light and Allstate and I forget who else making UT the star of their commercials makes me ill.

The only redeeming thing is they make the UT student in the Allstate commercial out to be a complete and utter moron. So that's nice.

So they nailed that one!

And the funny part about the bud light one. Gillis is actually a big time Notre Dame fan.

Tech is swinging big, clearly....even if it's a little weird.

Where we at?

We have been, just not in your neighborhood.

Why?

The people in your neighborhood probably already know about A&M. Which is what Tech is trying to do here.

In the last 3 years we've put a billboard on Sunset Blvd in L.A. because a current student just won The Voice. We've also had lots of ads up in the NYC subway system at various times. I think we did the same in Chicago somewhere. We sponsor a Nascar team (Haas Factory) and an Indycar driver (Felix Rosenqvist, the A&M logo is on the top of his helmet). We have a whole thing at South by Southwest. We get rewards each year from Fast Company Magazine alongside brands like Coca cola. We're the only university that does that. We've got whole initiatives promoting our professors as subject matter experts for media outlets who are looking for someone to consult on different issues to get our name out there.

You just don't see it because where you live, probably, everyone already knows about A&M, so why would they spend money telling them about A&M?

Tech has done an incredible job with NIL and turned their brand from "regional" to one that is now marketed nationally. More power to them.

Is it really an incredible job if the door opens to a billionaire to buy whomever he wants and use his business acumen to market his school's team?

Regardless, with about 36% of residents foreign born, I imagine New Yorkers really don't care about college sports let alone are able to tell you where Texas Tech is.

Which means, as we all know, this is all about stroking a recruits ego and letting them know if you come to Tech we'll put you on a billboard in New York City - and you don't even need to be in Heisman contention, eh Nike?

But, if you are willing and able to do that, like you said, more power to them.

That advertising will be all over social media, it's meant for recruits not random slobs walking around NYC.

I honestly would be extremely embarrassed if I saw us do that.

Nothing screams irrelevant program looking for attention than to advertise you are getting a good recruit.

If we win an SEC Title or National Title and want to promote the program, that would be totally fine.

Not embarrassed by that either. The difference is something was actually accomplished. What did TT or the player actually accomplish other than decide to transfer.

Not saying you should be embarrassed. But tech isn't the only school who has done something like that. So I don't think they should be embarrassed either. I think it would be cool as an 19-22 year old for your school to show enough pride in you to buy a Times Square ad.
Their fanbase is excited. Let them be. They won't win a national title or anything any time soon seeing as no big 12 team has won one since Texas in 2005.

If they want to spend money that could go to NIL on billboards. More power to them. We can easily shut them up next year by making it further than them and being the best program in the state

A billboard in Times Square is probably a bit understated in comparison to landing a helicopter at a high school football game like a former coach of ours.

As others have noted, we did a Times Square billboard when Johnny won the Heisman. It's a fun way to get attention when things are going your way. The eyeballs on the billboard itself aren't that big of a deal, it's more about the media attention.

That being said, using it for a transfer QB from Cincinnati is odd. TTU is coming off their best season in my memory. Their money would have been better spent bringing attention to their conference championship and playoff berth.

It's not like people don't know who wins the Heisman and JFF was all over TV constantly his time here.
