If it is overrated, then what is this season? Beat up cupcakes and cellar of the SEC, then get drilled at home by tu and then held to a field goal at home in our playoff debut? Orange bowl looks pretty good. Doesn't much matter now, though. We have Elko signed to a big contract, and what could be NIL money flowing in to Jimbo's bank.

Jumbo thought A&M money would win him the Natty and didn't put in the work.

How did he not put in the work? He had great recruiting, finished #4 in the country, and was generally a good dude. He happened to play against some of the best teams in the history of football. With this years schedule, and using his buyout money to pay players instead of severance, he probably would have been as or more successful this year as Elko. I hope he's successful wherever he goes in the future.

Bro he lost to App State and went 5-7 in year 5 of his tenure.

This just in: college football coaches occasionally lose games unexpectedly. More news at 11.

Seriously, that game did suck. Terrible across the board - coaching and players. But Jimbo haters love to harp on that one game (while throwing dirty toilet water on 2020, I might add). RC Slocum once lost to SW Louisiana. Fran had lots of WTF games, but I do recall a massive struggle against Texas State in a hurricane game. Mike Sherman lost to Arkansas State in his first game as head coach. I don't recall Kevin Sumlin losing to programs of this stature, but he notably choked away a huge lead in a game that I believe led to his firing, UCLA. And while Mike Elko has not lost any such game or even been threatened in one against such an opponent, he did manage to lose to a God-awful Auburn team with an offense that had not shown any semblance of life up until the Aggies stepped onto their field. I don't recall Jackie Sherrill having problems with teams like this, but admittedly was in high school when he arrived in Aggieland; my first three years at A&M, Sherrill had his teams humming, winning 3 consecutive SWC titles and going 2-1 in the Cotton Bowl.

These games do happen.

Where does Notre Dame fit in with the 'cupcakes and cellar of the SEC'?

Also, we didn't get 'drilled at home by tu'.

Nor did we get drilled at their place.

Right? I get the need for hyperbole when you want to make a point and the facts don't line up with that point... But don't blatantly lie.

Kiffin wins this argument without saying a word. One of them is coaching at the highest level while the other is seen as a flash in the pan who won a NC because of a once in a lifetime talent at QB. Jimbo needs to fulfill his life long ambition of making beef jerky for a living.

Nah. Lane Kiffin is mostly "potential" at this point. Good run at Ole Miss. Great 2025 season splint he didn't coach their best win of the season. Also got fired at USC for mediocrity.

Also that's all irrelevant to the fact that Jimbo's correct that Kiffin should have agreed for the assistants to coach Ole Miss through the playoffs. Kiffin's being a petty *******

Why are you listing coaches at A&M that failed and got fired as a defense for Jimbo? Fran and Sherman were awful and even in their "good" seasons were very underwhelming. Sumlin rode Johnny to a undeserved contract extension and Jimbo went 12-13 his last two seasons in year 5 and 6. RC had a good run, but we all know it was time to move on when we did.

This isn't about "one" game, it's about failing to take the program where we all wanted it to go. The App State game is just the moment when every Aggie should have realized it was time to move on.

I wasn't intending to defend Jimbo with previous coaches, but rather just pointing out that all of our previous coaches in recent memory have had such games. Yet posters here act like Jimbo is to be reviled for that loss.

As for knowing that was the point that we should have moved on, I look at the entirety of that awful season rather than the one bad game. And yeah, Sherman and Fran were bad at their jobs with plenty of other bad games on their resumes.

My original response was to someone defending Jimbo's tenure as if he should not have been fired and would have done as good or better with this year's schedule than Elko did.

The glazing of Kiffin here is weird.

Jimbo won a national title and averaged like 10 wins per year. Lane will never sniff one.
I don't like this disagreement, but zero way you're convincing me Coach O and Miles win championships at LSU and Lane won't. I think Lane is arguably the biggest POS in an industry overflowing with POS, but he is an excelllent coach and recruiter.

Miles and Coach O would not even win an SEC championship in today's college football. Lane is a much better coach but it would not surprise me if he fails to win it all at LSU.

If jimbo would have brought in a real OC his tenure here would have been vastly different. Really a shame.

That Covid season was way overrated.

Yeah, we missed a couple of games that we would have won and had a 12-1 record or something like that?

What are you talking about? We had virtually no chance of winning that playoff. Reality is we were all breathing a sigh of relief that the Ole Miss game was canceled.

He brought in Petrino but wouldn't give him control of offense. Jimbo too hardheaded and stubborn to do what's best for the program.

Why? Cause they played Bama close in one game and went 5-5? Wasn't worried about them in the slightest.

You guys are way off; this isn't about Jimbo. It isn't about an old feud. Like him, hate him, I don't give a s**t. This is about Lane Kiffin being an incredibly self-centered ass-hat. Lane Kiffin cares about one thing in this world, Lane Kiffin's ego. Jimbo nailed it, Kiffin doesn't give a damn about those kids or that team. AND he thought Georgia would roll them up and this would be over. LSU got what was coming to them and they are going to pay for it. This is their Dennis Franchione hire, and it will backfire in their faces.

Jimbo never came close to winning a natty at A&M. Sumlin and Elko both had better teams.

Can't convince me Ryan Day is an appreciably better coach than Lane, and Coach O won a championship in the era of transfers.
