Sorry I'm late to the table, but just saw the spring game.

The things that impressed me the most:

- He looked cool and comfortable moving around the pocket- not hurried or jittery.

- He threw a very catchable ball, and when it wasn't there he threw it away comfortably

- Most of all (and I've been waiting for this for a long time), on the deep route he threw open his double-covered receiver by lofting the ball to the outside and letting the receiver run to it. On deep routes down the middle, unless the WR is clearly ahead of the DBs, it is a much higher % pass to just throw it towards the sidelines and let them run under it. (talking about when the WR has even half a step to the OUTSIDE on his defender(s). He doesn't necessarily have to have them beat downfield- just USE THE DAMN FIELD!

Anyway, I'd like to see more of him at QB.

The 2026 QB room and beyond is looking like this:

1. Marcel Reed 6'1'' 175 - Junior (RS) - Here in 2026.
- Starting QB for 2026 - He will be gone in 2027 to the draft.

2. Brady Hart 6'4" 195 - Freshman (RS) - Here in 2026
- Is the QB #2 in 2026 - Starting QB in 2027 / 2028

3. Helman Casuga 6'1" 220 - True Freshman - Will RS as a QB in 2026
- Has enroll in classes in January 2026.
- Will become QB #3 - Possible starting QB in 2028 / 2029

4. Eli Marcos 6'1" 205 - Freshman (RS) -
5. Paxton Land 6'4" 225 - Sophomore (RS) -
These guys are tied for our QB #4 and probably will be our Scout Team QBs.
- Not sure of their status for the 2027 & 2028 seasons.

Sounds about right. Late April. Post spring game. QB2 > QB1

I remember last year hearing rumors that the coaches love what they have in Hart. My hope is that Reed does well enough this coming season to go into the draft and that Hart takes over and lives up to the expectations. Inconsistency at the QB position has plagued A&M for years. Too many misses. Having Hart hit would help the program show some consistency at the position. It would also show that the coaching staff knows what they are doing in evaluating QB recruits.

If those measureables are correct, it would be good if Hart could put some meat on his bones.
But he is still quite young, so there is hope.

Hope I'm wrong, but dont see Marcel being a high enough draft pick that he would exceed his NIL value. Would not not shock me if he returns to CFB in 27/28

Had a lot of great plays but enough bad to understand why he's #2. Def some improvements to be made with his footwork and that's to be expected for an 18 year old.

He almost had a bad pick inside the redzone because he dropped back too deep out of the shotgun and basically setup a straight shot to him for the edge rusher.

And poor throw to TE crosser forcing him to adjust and fall down on the catch.

Great placement on a few mid range throws.

Hope he gets another full year of development (and meal plan) before we need him.

He has a lot to improve on. I don't see him as an NFL guy. Does not get rid of the ball on time which leads me to believe he is still not reading defences well, or at least good enough. Wildly inaccurate and gets lost against top defenses leading to ints.

Hopefully he makes strides and proves me wrong.

It's obvious teams figured out Marcel -- take way the big/ chunk plays, make him work the ball down the field with medium/short passes.
He also had a terrible habit of giving it away in the Red Zone.
Shane Beamer put his finger on it when he said nothing that happened in the 1st half of the SCar game surprised them. They definitely picked up on Marcels tendencies/weaknesses.

What modern NFL team is going to draft a 180 lb QB?

Based on available historical data, the quarterbacks who were both under 200 pounds and drafted are almost entirely from the early eras of the NFL. Modern examples are extremely rare.

Ray Buivid 180 lbs
  • Drafted: 1937 NFL Draft
Eddie Miller 190 lbs
  • Drafted: 1938 NFL Draft
Bernie Masterson 190 lbs
  • Drafted: 1934 NFL Draft
Gene Ronzani 190 lbs
  • Drafted: 1939 NFL Draft
Modern quarterbacks almost never weigh under 200 pounds at draft time. For example:
  • Bryce Young 204 lbs (2023 No. 1 pick)
  • Kyler Murray 207 lbs

To clarify, I wasn't being snarky. I think he's head & shoulders above the other backup QBs, and I think he'll do a great job when given the opportunity. But Reed is going to be QB1, regardless of what anyone on these boards thinks - unless he really craps the bed, which I don't see happening. At worst, he'll be what he was last year. I'm hoping he shows some improvement. JMO

i agree but these days returning to college football is not the same as returning to a&m. if his performance this season is just a repeat of last season with no progression i hope it will be his final as the starter here.

I don't think he would return as an A&M qb

If he doesn't excel enough to be a top three round pick, he probably won't be able to beat out hart next year

I appreciate the snark, but that wasn't the point.

But , SCAR started allowing big plays - after Marcel's 16 yd scramble on 4th and 12 in the 3rd.

- 32 yd. td pass

Next two drives: 70 yards, 7 plays 2:40, then 80 yards, 2 plays, 0:38s

agree - which is why I said "returns CFB" and not "the Aggies" - although if we make CFP again and advance a round or two, and he shows a modicum of improvement, I'd love to have him back.

Marcell has got to get his accuracy better. Even the short throws out to the flats or check downs to a RB. Guys were having to make what should be easy throw/catch look much harder. He fixes that and we have another good season and he gets drafted.

Marcel is a dual threat QB. Weird how it seems like we are trying to force him to be more of a passing QB than he seems to be comfortable with. If he's facing a quality defense, he's gonna have to be multiple to be successful. He's also a thin frame guy so I get not wanting to have him run the ball excessively and avoid injury as much as possible. That said, I think the biggest key to Marcel's success is more designed QB runs and staying balanced, not forcing him to pass nearly as much. He's not that kind of QB.

Imagine if Sumlin pulled the same crap at halftime before the epic collapse against UCLA.

Marcel improved considerably last year and just needs to take the next step again.

Getting there was great, but the performance in that game (and the one that preceded it) was terrible. Getting to the playoffs and then failing to score a touchdown is not good enough.
