I didn't post the article, but I did read it. Someone else posted it to this thread.

I did see the discrepancy in facts though and, IMO, that should be edited before posing. You'd never see a football or basketball sgnee listed with the wrong high school in an article and then have the coach speak about the current school. Intern or not, it's basic journalism.

I think that's the issue. It was not an editorial mistake. The article is factual and technically accurate. Perhaps it was too accurate so it confused some that may not understand North Texas Soccer (which admittedly is a very different world).

Coach G said in his interview w Nuno that a current player is in the portal. Who is it?

Reese Rupe just announced she is transferring to USF.

I liked what I saw from Rupe in her limited minutes.

Should someone make a transfer thread?

The grousing about A&M Soccer NIL money on here is tiresome. G and Trev have made zero personal effort to build donor support for NIL (or for anything for Aggie Soccer). You contrast that will other sports and the effort their HC's and the AD have made, and it's pretty obvious that it can be done, if you try.

Not sure if this is the right thread, but does anyone know if a team is allowed to be over the 28 roster cap when school starts in January? Assuming nobody else enters the portal in the next few weeks, aren't we at 30 on the roster (27 last season, less 3 seniors, less 1 transfer, plus 7 freshmen?). I heard all of the freshmen are starting in January and I don't think we have any DSAs as we were under the 28 cap last season. Just curious if anyone knows how this works or if at least 2 more will have to enter the portal in the next few weeks (their choice or the new coach's).

I was really shocked to hear about how far behind the ball we are in this area but then when G specifically mentioned NIL, in a very negative light, as being one of the reasons why he wanted to retire (yes, we all know the truth that he was canned), it made more sense.

A coach has to go out and hustle for NIL, it's not a faucet you turn on and off.

I'm sure some coaches do not like that aspect of the job, many didn't sign up for that in the beginning.

One of the stories that has come out is Jimbo really didn't wanna go hob knob with the boosters, so he sent Elko to do that. So when Elko came back he knew exactly to go to when they needed the NIL funding and that helped get those portal guys we have this year.

I know Bucky sought out boosters first because he needed to get a roster filled from the portal.

The next soccer coach will have to have that ability. Aggie Soccer isn't going to fund itself on reputation anymore.

Several SEC programs are talking NIL money to the soccer players during initial conversations. Several other schools are way ahead of A&M when it comes to female NIL money, not just in soccer but all female sports.

With the new settlement agreements, NIL comes under much more scrutiny and there has to be justification for NIL payments (social media followers, etc.). The new revenue sharing model is driven by the school and can be dispersed based on the school's priorities. The vast majority will go to football, basketball, baseball but schools have some discretion in terms of what percentage goes to each sport. The difficulty is that the revenue sharing is maxed at 20.5 million or so. Many of the soccer schools who hopped on NIL early with money to dole out are somewhere between $100k and $300k (total). Revenue sharing is lowering those numbers a some.

With that said and the rule changes I wonder if A&M could be creative in how they pay soccer players who help with the camps. They are bringing in $2 million a year with those camps. Coach G was probably getting 10% of that which is what made his compensation package look larger. There are also costs associated with field and dorm usage, but there is still plenty of money to go around after that.
