With Florida State losing to UNC and Stanford's epic tie tonight vs. Santa Clara (A&M beat them 4-0), A&M (with another route of a ranked team today) is now in position to leap over USC (who has a tie on their record) and grab its first #1 ranking in school history. Pretty amazing considering most of us thought this would be a rebuilding year after the loss of the big four last season and the bitter loss in PKs to Notre Dame in the 2nd round.

This team would take that #1 ranking into Arkansas on Thursday night for its first true road test of the season. A&M is playing well right now and converting chances in front of goal at a more consistent rate than past teams with more talent. A&M also has one of the nation's best defenses, only allowing 2 goals total this season and a GK playing at a very high level right now. The season is shaping up to be a special one for us and the chance for a #1 seed is there for the taking as A&M is currently #1 in the RPI as well.

Surely 10-0-0 also equals the longest active win streak in NCAAW soccer. Right?

I'll take the credit guys. I've been able to watch every game this year except the Hawaii games.

This team is pretty stacked, way more so than last year after injuries. I believe I heard the announcers say 12 different Ags have scored so far.

Adding to the accolades, the last time an Aggie Soccer Team lost a game was September 15, 2017 - over a year ago. That's relying on a technical point that our penalty kick loss to ND is considered a tie with the winner of the penalty kick shootout advancing in the tournament.

Be that technicality as it may, we haven't been beaten on the pitch in over a year. We lost four outstanding players from last year, and right now we are playing at an extremely high level.

We are just halfway through our schedule, and we now have to go on the road and play very competent opponents. In a schedule that long, there are plenty of opportunities to have an off night or a poor game.

But right now, let's enjoy the ride!

We got the results we were watching for this weekend. I know a lot of us watched that Santa Clara game and that really gave credibility to what our team has done.

We should be #1, but that's expecting voters to look at the big picture. A lot of them will simply look at the weekend results and adjust from there. We'll be getting some votes for sure, but I'm not banking on the #1 ranking until I see it.

So, assuming we keep going the way we are going and become the 1 seed in our bracket for NCAA, how many games will be played at Ellis Field?

Very true. In at least one of the polls Virginia was ahead of A&M in that poll even though they did not play.

Half of the teams (32) host the first round.

Assuming seeds hold, Second & Third Round are hosted by #1/#2 seeds.

Elite Eight is hosted by the #1 seeds.

Final Four and Championship are played at the College Cup hosting site (Cary, NC this year).

In 2014 we were a #1 seed and hosted first 4 rounds.
Last year we were a #2 seed, and hosted the 2nd and 3rd rounds.
I think not advancing as a #2 seed is providing extra motivation this year.

I'm only looking at the United Soccer Coaches poll. USC is ahead of us at #3 but if the voters take into consideration another blowout of a ranked opponent compared with USC's win over Long Beach State and the fact that they have a tie on the ledger, we should move ahead of them to #1. We'll see tomorrow morning. I would say we are guaranteed the #1 ranking if we start 13-0-0 because USC has to play at Stanford in a few weeks and will probably lose (or tie) there.

Applying the BAS filter, let USC be #1 for now and not have our girls carrying that target with them to Arkansas.

Obviously we are just a bunch of dudes on a forum, and I assume the players/coaches don't read any of this..

but if I were a coach I would downplay the possibility of being ranked #1 now because otherwise it might seem as a sort of goal. Once they achieve that goal there maybe a bit of a letdown slip and a loss. Yeah it might be cool to be ranked #1, but what is better being ranked #1 now and getting knocked out early in the tourney again or to be ranked #10 and go deeper than we ever have before?

Now that the remaining games are for the conference trophy I don't think there will be any letdown. The team was very disappointed they didn't win the regular season last year. A trophy means a ring, and I think they like to get rings.

Coaches Poll is the one I'm watching. It's due out today.

The first official NCAA RPI of the season is posted with us at #1.

The RPI has us 2-0 on the road. Should be 1-0 and then 1-0 at neutral site.

I did find it odd that a tie by Stanford does not hurt them.

Being #1 should be a goal, especially for a program that has never been there. So if we keep wining, I think we are going to get there at one time or another this season.

Pragmatically, however, our real goal is to end up in the top 4 in the NCAA ranking, so we will secure home field advantage for the entire play-offs. The one time we made it to the college cup, we played every play-off game on our home pitch.

Keep winning, Ladies!

A&M comes in at #2. Stanford retains a strong grip on #1 with 32 of 35 first place votes. Don't really understand that because they faltered at home with a tie, albeit against a good team Santa Clara (who is #6). It will take another stumble by Stanford to move ahead of them obviously. They do have a couple of tough matches coming up against USC and UCLA Sept 27 and 30, so as long as we remain perfect I think we'll finally get that elusive #1 ranking. Stanford did not have a single tough road match this season, except maybe Washington St late in the season. They got Notre Dame, UNC, Santa Clara, UCLA, and USC all at home.

On paper, Stanford's roster is far and away better than ours. Tierna Davidson is now a regular starter on the USWNT and players like Smith, Girma, Kuhlmann, Macario, Hiatt, and Pickett (among others) are regulars on the U20 & U23 National Teams.

Did anyone watch Sophia Smith play this summer in the U20 World Cup? Wow, she was impressive. Another speedy attacking player built in the model of Alex Morgan and Mallory Pugh. I think she'll become a household name in the future.

A&M's 4-0 win over Santa Clara obviously bests Stanfords 1-1 draw. However, I still fear that a head-to-head matchup with the Cardinal would be quite lopsided if we were to meet down the road. They are consistently on another level and have recruited the best of the best year in and year out.

I'm not shocked. None of the polls tend to take the season as a whole. Instead they look at the final scores each week and move teams up/down based on that.

We are getting 1 #1 vote (along with USC & UVA)

Yep. USWNT just confirmed a few hours ago. Broke her ankle in the UNC match and will be out 10-12 weeks. Luckily the USWNT should breeze through WC qualifying next month without her but that's a big blow for the Cardinal.

No one would argue that Stanford has a superior roster with elite level talent as compared to A&M. However, the game isn't played on paper and Stanford has struggled at times to consistently score against good opponents. They've looked more disjointed than their title team last year. They are beatable but it would take a near perfect game by A&M to have a chance to win. And results do matter, they tied Santa Clara and we rolled them 4-0 in the end.

Voters may have taken into account that Tierna Davidson and Michelle Xiao did not play for Stanford against Santa Clara. Stanford seemed to have the more dangerous chances in that game.

wow 32 of 35 first place that is just stupid. They may be the best team on paper but games matter.

Did y'all see the challenge that broke Davidson's ankle? Yikes! Quite reckless from the UNC player. Very unfortunate.

I've seen worse, at least she didn't go cleats up into her plant leg. Still pretty dirty though.
