Well, yeah. We've all seen worse. But this is about as bad as it gets in the women's game. You just don't see this kind of tackling in women's college soccer. Especially not from a player of UNC's caliber. I would expect clumsy tackling like this from a less developed player.

I've seen worse. Seemed like she made a legit play on the ball. Overreaction because of who the challenge was on I'd say.

You better go balls to the wall if you're playing against the best, or else you're committing yourself to losing. If this looked extremely dirty that would be one thing, but to me it doesn't jump out.

I wonder if you'd feel differently if it were Watt or McCain on the receiving end of the tackle.

For me, this is just not a ball that you go to the ground for especially with a second defender nearby.

It's really pretty hard to snap someone's ankle in a soccer match. But cleats up and head on would be the easiest way.

She missed the ball with her leading foot and caught the players foot. Trailing leg gets the ball but that is not relevant. This is a reckless studs up foul. Should have be a straight red.

That clip makes it really hard to judge because in super slo mo you cannot really gauge speed and the force of the tackle. It makes it almost impossible to judge if excessive force is used, and that's the standard for a red for Serious Foul Play.

Yes she was showing studs, but I would not categorize them as "up". Up usually means up in the air and hitting above the ankle.

In the EPL, WC, UCL, that's a yellow all day. In MLS, probably yellow. MLS is pretty strict about SFP though. I'm yellow but can defend red.

On paper, Stanford's roster is far and away better than ours. Tierna Davidson is now a regular starter on the USWNT and players like Smith, Girma, Kuhlmann, Macario, Hiatt, and Pickett (among others) are regulars on the U20 & U23 National Teams.

Did anyone watch Sophia Smith play this summer in the U20 World Cup? Wow, she was impressive. Another speedy attacking player built in the model of Alex Morgan and Mallory Pugh. I think she'll become a household name in the future.

A&M's 4-0 win over Santa Clara obviously bests Stanfords 1-1 draw. However, I still fear that a head-to-head matchup with the Cardinal would be quite lopsided if we were to meet down the road. They are consistently on another level and have recruited the best of the best year in and year out.
NOBODY will get a lopsided win over this team !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
