Major credit to Hill for winning the loose ball in the box and sending it back into the mix for Watt to latch onto.

Well, there you have it. It was destined. Good for the team and Watt. With a little more work she can break through to the next level. I can't imagine this team without her.

So does A&M finish in 4th with head-to-head tiebreakers over Ole Miss and South Carolina?

Absolutely right. If Hill doesn't do the hard work to dig that ball out and serve it back into the mixer, we wind up chasing South Carolina down the field instead of scoring. Those little bits of hard effort are what separates teams at this time of year. I hope we see more of it !

I just have to quote my son here.

"To go a full game plus extra time with pneumonia is insane"

I wish some of you guys would catch a clue. Watt sick on the field on any team is better than without Watt. Now she plans to sleep for 4 days.

These girls are great. They battle for A&M every day because they are Aggies and they bleed Maroon and White.

I go back to my corner.

It looks like we are in a 3rd place tie with the Pigs, Ole Miss, and SC. I think the tie breaker with multiple teams is the record among those teams. If my quick research is right, here are the records:

A&M - 2 wins, one loss versus the Pigs
Arkansas - 1 win, 1 loss to Ole Miss
Ole Miss - 1 win, 1 loss (to us)
SC - 0 wins, 1 loss (to us)

If that is indeed the criteria and my quick analysis of the records is correct, for the tournament the rankings should be:

3. A&m
4. Ole Miss - head to head with the Pigs
5. Arkansas
6. SC

If true, that's a stinker for us, as we'd have to play SC again in the first round. Please feel free to correct if my quick look missed something. It's really odd that SC only played one of the other three teams with which they were tied.

That's the first home loss for South Carolina since UNC beat them 1-0 in late Nov (in NCAA tournament game) in 2016. They were one game from going two full seasons with no losses at home. Pretty cool to see the Aggies break that string !

determine regular season standings. If teams are tied, the following procedures, in order as follows, will be used to break the tie:
1. TwoTeam Tie The following procedure will be used in the following order until the tie is broken:
A. Headtohead competition between the tied teams.
B. Points earned versus common opponents.
C. Goal differential versus common opponents.
2018-2019 SEC COMMISSIONER'S REGULATIONS (UPDATED: 8/15/18) PAGE 99
COMMISSIONER'S REGULATIONS WOMEN'S SOCCER
D. Goals scored versus common opponents.
E. WonLost record of the two teams versus highest seeded common opponent and proceeding through the No. 14 seed, if necessary.
F. Goal differential versus highest seeded common opponent and proceeding through the No. 14 seed, if necessary.
G. Goals scored versus highest seeded common opponent and proceeding through the No. 14 seed, if necessary.
H. Coin flip by the Commissioner.
2. Three-Team Tie (or more) The following procedure will be used until the tie is broken. If at any time this tie breaker results in only two remaining tied teams, then the twoteam tiebreaker will be used beginning with Subsection A in that procedure and continuing from that point:
A. If all teams have played one another, then most points earned in those matches only.
B. If all teams have not played, but one team has defeated all teams in the tie break, then that team breaks the tie and shall be placed highest. Remaining teams will continue with the tie break procedure.
C. If all teams have not played one another and a team does not have all wins over the tied teams, then use Subsection B in the twoteam tie break procedures and continue through the two team tiebreak procedures until ties between all teams are broken (except Subsection H will read "if three or more teams are still tied, the Commissioner will conduct a draw").

Phooey, we did tie Old Miss. Therefore, these are the (I hope) correct standings among us tied folks:

A&M - 1 wins, one loss versus the Pigs, 1 tie with Ole Miss
Arkansas - 1 win, 1 loss to Ole Miss
Ole Miss - 1 win, 0 losses, 1 tie with us
SC - 0 wins, 1 loss (to us)

Again, if I'm correct, SC will finish 6th and Arkansas 5th. I don't know how the tie between us and Ole Miss is broken. I rather hope, that if I'm right about everything else, Ole Miss finishes 3rd and us 4th. I would much rather play Arkansas in the first round rather than SC again.

Please chime in if you have any other insight.

You're right. So we were 1-1-1 against the teams with 19 points.

Okay, here I go again sticking my neck out.

I'm assuming that 3rd and 4th place are between us and Old Miss, having each gotten 4 points among the tied teams.

We tied head-to-head so the first tie breaker is mute.

Other than ourselves, we had 7 common opponents. Ole Miss went 5 - 2 against those opponents; we went 4 - 3.
If I am correct, then Ole Miss becomes the 3 seed and A&M is the 4th seed for the tournament.

Although that matches us with a team we lost to, Arkansas, I see that as a potentially easier game than versus SC. In fact, for Ole Miss to win the tourney, they could potentially have to beat SC, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt. Granted, upsets occur, but we have a potentially easier road.

Texas A&M, Arkansas, Ole Miss, and South Carolina didn't all play each other so the tiebreaker is points vs. common opponents. Each team beat both Auburn and Kentucky. The other common opponents are LSU and Mississippi State.

(#3) Texas A&M - 12 points
LSU - W
Mississippi State - W

(#4) Arkansas - 10 points
LSU - W
Mississippi State - T

(#5) Ole Miss - 9 points
LSU - L
Mississippi State - W

(#6) South Carolina - 6 points
LSU - L

Head-to-head is only used as a tiebreaker if all the teams involved in the tie played each other OR one team beat all of the other teams. Neither is the case.

I was starting from scratch after each position was determined. After A&M was determined to be the 3 seed, then I did a 3-way tie break between the remaining teams to determine the 4 seed. And finally, a 2 way tie break between the last two teams. I did too much work. It came down to what you had above

Games always look better when you find a way to win after not playing your best, and the hustle and effort A&M displayed in the last 5 minutes of the first OT period resulted in the goal by Watt. It pretty much came out of nowhere because A&M was moribund for most of the 2nd half with little possession and only a few chances on goal. The winner by Watt was fitting because she missed her two previous 1v1 chances, which was A&M's only real scoring threats all night. The first miss was a great shot that was saved by the GK after Watt made a great individual effort to steal one from the backline. The second one was setup by a perfect pass by Bates where Watt tried to bend her body to shoot with the right foot instead of her left foot, which resulted in the shot going wide. But the winner was a second chance header that she perfectly placed over the GK in the upper 90. A&M had gone almost 293 minutes without scoring a goal, the longest drought in school history if you can believe it. The offense is struggling right now, but that was a big goal by Watt to finally break through, and more importantly, beat South Carolina for the first time since 2014 in the SEC tournament. The Gamecocks have owned A&M for a long time, so it was nice to spoil their perfect home record this season. By the way, South Carolina had a pretty pathetic looking crowd for the last game of the season. Not many folks in attendance for a school that is in the Top 2-3 in attendance every year now.

The midfield continues to struggle in stringing passes together without turning it over and just kicking it to nowhere in particular. I don't know what's happened to this group in the last month, but they just aren't very good right now. Not a good sign going into the postseason. McCain must find a way to get more shots on goal from the 20-yard range because she is our best shooter. Bates had a few good runs and one excellent pass to Watt, but it wasn't consistent. Maybe I missed it but where is Kendall Bates? She hasn't played since the Kentucky game. I assume she's injured. Hajdu wasn't effective and Lopez seems to be in a funk outside of one nice cross tonight. Piper is also struggling but she might be playing through injury. This group must play better if A&M is going to be competitive in the NCAA tournament.

The backline was better tonight, with a lot of help defense and coverage from the midfielders and even Watt at times to stymie the Carolina attack. I think they only had maybe 2 real chances on goal so Morche really wasn't challenged. The marking was definitely better, although there were a few miscues. And we didn't see any bad giveaways like what happened in the Tennessee game. We do need Alston back next week though to be at our best.

I have to give the players credit for finding a way to win this game because I didn't give them much of a chance coming into it. We still aren't playing well but we did finish off 1 of our 3 chances compared to South Carolina's 0 for 2 effort. A&M finishes in a 4-way tie for 3rd place in the conference, which overall is still disappointing considering the first half of the season. But we did get the #3 seed in the SEC tournament after tiebreaker rules. Unfortunately we have to turn around and play South Carolina again on Tuesday which is not a great matchup for us. If we advance we would get a rematch with Tennessee, and then a shot at Vanderbilt in the title match. That's a tough road and right now A&M is #8 in the RPI with a shot at getting to a #2 seed if we win the SEC tourney. It would be a nice way to finish the season if we could accomplish it. Right now a matchup with either Texas or Baylor in the NCAAs is looking likely as well.

Thanks to aggiesoccer#1fan for correctly working out the tie breaker.

I incorrectly thought that regardless that each of the four tied teams didn't all play each other, that the #1 tie breaker - record against all the tied teams - would apply. Obviously that turned out not to be true.

At least it was fun to work it all out, even though my original assumption invalidated my results. Live and learn.

I don't particularly like the first round match-up with SC, although only one of their 6 conference wins was against the top six teams in the final standings, Tennessee ironically. They also had a tie at Vanderbilt last Sunday, which is impressive. But they lost to us, LSU and MSU, which is surprising.

I suspect the first team to score a goal in the game will win.

Briana was wearing a boot last night and Jimena had a thigh wrapped up. Every one who played can play better except maybe Cozy who saved a lot of mistakes. We really seemed to have trouble getting control of the ball on the first touch when receiving a pass. I noticed late in the game that USC started to miss a lot of passes with the ball going out of bounds.
