This result is what happens as a result of the tournament field being expanded from 16 to 24. You end up with a few incredibly talented teams playing against countries who are just getting their programs off the ground.
The final score is going to get blown out of proportion and the US is going to get ripped for scoring 13 goals. Wanna bet some coins on this happening?

Thailand had a respectable score line against France (0-3) in a recent friendly. i guess it was the perfect storm in the 2nd half and the Thais were definitely deflated after the barrage of goals.

I agree 100% with this statement and wasn't it Alexi Lallas that made this point? My point is being made in reference to the studio announcer in Paris that commented basically, that we should have "...eased off the gas" or maybe shouldn't "...have tried as hard as we did" to score, etc, etc, etc. That maybe the game reduced itself to an AYSO match because of the final. That guy's comment struck a chord is all.

I was feeling a bit bad about piling on the goals, but then started to think about it... what if the next team in our group plays them and slaps on 14 against Thailand. That could come back to bite us.
This is the World Cup, and 'goals for' can come into play. You can't ease up.
As far as not celebrating. Well, I kind of agree with that, but at the same time they are excited and its hard to throttle that. If they run through everyone else and win the trophy, this will be forgotten and they will possibly be labeled as the best team ever. If they fail to get the trophy, I'm sure people will be pointing back to this game for one dumb reason or another.

I have no problem with scoring a lot of goals, it's way more embarrassing to have a team actively try to NOT score. I'm also fine with young players, or first timers in the World Cup celebrating.
When you're a veteran and you are showboating after scoring to go up 10-0 against a team that's not even a rival, it's pretty odd.

Scoring a goal always feels good, and I can only imagine scoring in the world cup. Just think the last 4-5 of those goals you might consider showing a little restraint is all

Between the whistles, it's all fair game. I have no problem with the rout or celebrations. After the match, both teams were pure class. Many US players consoled & encouraged Thai players (a fact that the Thai coach acknowledged in the post-game).
And I'm sure the tv coverage cut off but I was in the stadium and the Thai team was walking toward the tunnel when the US contingent gave them a loud applause. They ended up coming in front of the US 1st deck section to a standing ovation, bowed, and returned applause before before exiting the pitch. Solid sportsmanship all the way around.
That said, my adrenaline is still through the roof...that was unbelievably exciting to be a part of.

Score as many goals as you can, that is fine. But some of the celebration was uncalled for and pretty ridiculous. Some of them are not 12, these were not there first goals.
