Barce are confirming he sent in via fax which makes it a legal request. Now arguing over his contract clause that says he can opt out at the end of any season for free. Barce saying he had to opt out in July, so someone will have to pay.

This is going to get messy.

Considering no one is playing games and we're in the middle of transfer windows, they have little to stand on, IMO.

It hasn't been resolved yet, but it's similar to the Leeds-Leipzig legal battle happening right now over a loan contract which stated if Leeds got promoted then they must purchase the player for a mandatory fee. Player barely played and they don't want him. They sent him back on July 1 at the end of the loan... but...

RM got 100M for Ronaldo. What a way to burn down the building on Messi's way out if he goes for free.

Glad we started our project two years ago with a full purse. Barca needs cash for a new project and can't let him go for free.

His transfer clause is something like 625MM. Since you can have him on a free next year anyways, Barca wont get anywhere near 625MM.

No way that Chelsea could afford to buy him given what they're spending this summer. United are too busy not buying other players on the market, I doubt Messi has any desire to play for Arsenal, Juventus can't afford Messi and Ronaldo on wages alone. Realistically it's gotta be down to one of the arab oil teams (City or PSG).

I agree. One of the petro teams. PSG or City. Either will make a mockery of whatever is left of FFP and make it clear that some teams have unlimited bankrolls.

The opportunity to ever coach club football of any significance again after this is my first thought. He has pretty well thrown any club he has touched in the trash to this point. And now he takes the opportunity to take over a great club - that I fully recognize is a mess right now - and tells a GOAT player to take a walk. Maybe he is already a dead man walking at Barca, but this feels like career suicide.

Putting FFP aside, man city's actions still seem to violate the rules of football. I don't think you are allowed to contact players on other teams and get them to break contract. Clearly Pep called Messi and clearly both sides have tried to develop a plan to get Messi to city for free. Once Barca truly realized he is gone, I'm certain there will be a huge legal ordeal if he tries to go to city for free.

was listening to the grumpy pundits. they were interviewing Graham Hunter, and he said Man shiity have been chatting with Messi for years trying to figure out how to entice him to the club. Barce has known about it. apparently, they have figured out a way to do this without technically violating the rules.
