Aggie Soccer returns home for a 7PM Friday night match with the LSU Tigers. The game can be streamed live on the ESPN App through SEC+. This was originally set to be the final regular season game of the year, but the rescheduled Auburn game now looms on the horizon.
LSU has a miserable record as they are still searching for their first win. LSU carries a 0-5-2, but they aren't completely helpless. The Tigers have kept most of their games close, suffering only two multi-goal losses (Arkansas 0-2, Vanderbilt 0-2). LSU's best outing probably came last week against Auburn. They ultimately lost 0-1, but they took a decent Auburn team to OT while playing a man down. It's the little victories when you don't have any actual victories.
LSU's defense has fared better than their anemic offense this season. The exception to that rule was a 3-3 tie with Alabama. Outside of that game, LSU has shown that they just can't score and 4 of their 5 losses have been shutouts. They even missed their only PK of the season.
Overall LSU has been outscored 5-12. The frustration is evident as LSU is near the top in the nation with 12 fouls per game and a total of 13 yellow cards.
If we're highlighting a forward, I guess I'd point to #11 Tinaya Alexander from England. She has only appeared in 5 games, but has a team high 2 goals on the season. Both goals came against Alabama. She has 10 total shots and 4 shots on goal this season, both of which are 1 shot away from being team highs.
Sophomore Mollee Swift (#1) has played all but one game in net for LSU. She's allowed 10 goals, while totaling 22 saves. The two keepers have combined for a 1.6 goal against average and are still searching for their first shutout. Keep looking.
It's been a tough season for first year coach Sian Hudson, but the series history isn't on LSU's side either. LSU is one of 3 conference teams that A&M is undefeated against. The history books say the series is 10-0, but the first meeting in 2009 (NCAA 2nd Round at Baton Rouge) was actually a tie, though A&M advanced on PKs. A&M won this matchup last year 2-0 and LSU has not scored against the Aggies since 2014.
A&M should control this game from the start and LSU should have very few opportunities to score. This should be a beating on the scoreboard for LSU, but A&M could take a physical beating from a very physical and inferior team. Health is a focus at this point in the season with 2 games in the next 4 days and the SEC Tournament starting the following week.
