I love the "mbappe only scores goals in the French league" folks. Like its a negative that a Frenchman who has only had the opportunity to play in France to this point, has only scored in the French league. Hopefully, Real Madrid can afford him this summer so you can watch him score .8+ goals per game in the la liga.

It's a negative when you compare it to how he performs in big games outside of the league; looked completely clueless in much of the Euro. I expect more from a "generational" player to be honest.

1. It's like everybody forgot 2018 already

2. France looked completely out of sync all tournament. Super talented team who clearly was clicking poorly this year

3. He's only 22. With few exception, players that age are going to find themselves in spells where they look lost.

It's not a negative, it's an unknown. It has been demonstrated over and over that success in Ligue 1 doesn't directly correlate to success in the EPL. As an Arsenal supporter, we've got a 2 players who were wildly successful scorers in France who have floundered in England. Lacazette led the league with 27 goals before his transfer. Same number of goals Mbappe had last year.

Anyone crowning him as the next Messi at this point is being just as ridiculous as those calling him a flop.

That's all fair for an above average or borderline elite player. But read the title- there's MANY people in the soccer community (not necessarily in this thread) who have said he could be the next Ronaldo or Messi.

Messi had like 3 Baloon d'Ors by the time he was 22, a treble, and was the best player on the best team of all time.

Again, if we're going to call someone generational, going to need something better than what Mbappe is currently showing - Uber Eats league or not.

Actually, Messi was 22 when he won his first Ballon d'Or, but he won the next three, too. He was also 22 when Barca won their first treble, a first in Spanish football.

Here's a better barometer for where Mbappe is currently: is he even in the discussion for Ballon D'Or?

****edit to add: I DO see where Mbappe is in the conversation for this year's Ballon, so he's getting recognition as one of the top 10 or so players.
