I wonder if Barca/Real can threaten to pull a tu/ou and jump to another league. Or if there are big fines and whatnot involved in that.
Pretty sure they tried that and yes there are.
Haha yep. They figured out pretty quick that no club is bigger than their domestic leagues.
I don't mean the super league, I'm talking about leaving and joining the PL, Ligue, or something.

Is there another league that crosses borders? Besides MLS that is. I honestly don't know if that's even possible.

I am lucky enough to have seen Messi play in person once - Centenario Semi-final vs USA in Houston. Watched him warming up pre-match and he was practicing the shot he scored the free kick on. Unbelievable talent, and I agree he is the best ever. I cannot fathom how Barca could let him walk for free.

Wales. But that's pretty much it.

It is not an even remote possibility. If the Super League couldn't work this couldn't work even worse.

No what? Is there a law in Spain against it? A trillion euro exit fee?

Or are you just guessing it can't be done?

I would be interested to see how many games he has played in the US. I am going to put the over under at about 15. Maybe more.

I am about to go research that.

It sounds like they aren't letting him walk. They want him and he wants them. It's not like Real Madrid and Ronaldo.

While I think it is not likely to happen, it's NOT for the same reason super league didn't work. This would be because fans of Barcelona who live in southern Spain can now watch them play against Real Betis rather than fly to England to watch them play. Super league didn't work because A) they also remained in their domestic leagues and the domestic leagues could punish them and B) it was purely a money grab and not a response to them getting "screwed" over (which I have doubts on).

BTW, I have not read anything about them leaving. I'm, wondering if they have that in their pocket.

Because if they are the only 2 that dislike this investment deal and they can't leave, then they can just be out voted by the small teams. If that were the case, then couldn't small teams just vote themselves equal shared revenue across the board too? Since they haven't, I assume there must be some sort of way that Barca and Real can leave. Just like TCU, Baylor, TT, etc. couldn't just vote themselves a piece of tu's money (since tu could just haul ass like they did).

This makes it sound like it was an ultimatum.

Quote:

Until this afternoon, everything indicated that Messi was going to sign his new contract with Bara. Then Javier Tebas announced to Joan Laporta that if he refused the agreement with the CVC investment fund, the Argentine would not be registered in La Liga. @florenttorchut

If true, it's going to involve a lot of face egg for La Liga to reverse on that. This appears to be little more than a dick measurement contest.

Saw him and Aguero play for Arg a few years ago at BBVA Houston when they played Bolivia in a friendly. He came in in the last 20 or so mins.

I remember the whole crowd roared when he stood up to stary warming up.

The Kontinental Hockey League has poached some of the best teams from outside Russia. I don't know much detail on how that played domestically and politically, but one of Finland's best teams, for example, switched leagues a few years ago. So, there's some precedent for teams going "rogue" in European sport.

Negative.

You are making an assumption that England would want them and be willing to set the precedent of major clubs moving over to other domestic leagues(Swansea and Cardiff are historical and not relevant to this discussion)

There is no way that would be any more popular than a Super League. Probably less.

It is completely unrealistic.

That's all I got on that.

The "Big 6" in the EPL couldn't even get the other clubs to allow 5 subs during the pandemic year, there is no way the Burnleys of the world are going to vote to allow Barca and Real into the EPL. Those clubs, along with Juve and PSG, are despised by the other clubs throughout Europe.

Will they have Neymar and Mbappe during those two years? What does their roster look like now?

There are a few other teams in different leagues besides the Welsh teams in the English system. There are also English teams in Wales, England and Scotland have crossovers, and Northern Ireland has at least one team that plays in Ireland. Many believe it's only a matter of time before a merger of the Belgian and Netherlands leagues.

No way Real and Barca just switch though, they already lost on that one.

Like 500 years ago, both countries were owned by Spain. So maybe Real and Barca can join that new league and rule them again?

My son and I were there for that game. As soon as he stood up to start warming up you felt the entire atmosphere in the stadium go from a buzz to full blown electric. He and Aguero ended up with braces.

My son got his autograph after the game....it was a pretty epic night.

I had no idea Sergio Ramos was with PSG now. Yikes, that will be awkward for a while. But I'm sure Messi will appreciate Ramos terrorizing any opponents that try to harass him. Will make for very interesting video.

He may be too slow or injured to terrorize anyone. That's part of the reason Madrid let him go.

Oh you of little faith. Ramos doesn't need pace to injure people he just needs proximity. Regardless of age Ramos is a wrecking ball on the pitch.
