Aggie soccer hosts Southern University on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. match at Ellis Field.

I'm off the grid with very limited connectivity, so here's your game thread while I have a reasonable 4G cell signal to compose it:

I know nothing about this year's squad or their results. But I know this. Southern is the worst team A&M will face this year. They're the worst team they'll face across several years. The Southern Jaguars are regularly among the worst soccer teams in the NCAA. There are a few other SWAC teams that they'll snatch a win from each year (Alcorn State). But they're not a side that's going to beat a P5 conference team. They just can't compete.

I hope you like Aggie goals. There are going to be a bunch of them.

G said on the radio show tonight that we were trying to find an opponent for Thursday so we would have the same rest as OSU before our game on Sunday (OSU plays SMU Thursday), but we couldn't find anyone to play Thursday. But Southern agreed to play us on Wednesday. Southern has home games scheduled this Friday and Sunday.

We didn't play very well against a completely overmatched team. Plenty of skill and talent but really struggling with precision, control and final touches.

This won't work well against better teams. I'll take the win tonight but we've got to clean things up and be much better in the final third against the better teams we will be playing over the next several months.

21 players played tonight. Maybe Daria Britton should come in whenever Natalie Abel kicks from the corner. Every time I see Abel I am liking the way she plays even more. I was afraid Maile Hayes was being left in there too long in the second half. We have now had 11 players score in the first 6 games. Thought Russell looked good tonight down the right side. The team will need to get used to not having Olivieri and Carroll, although I don't know what Carroll's injury is. Wonder what was going on with the PK. McDonald lined up to take it and it would have been her first goal but she got blocked her first attempt. Then I thought the coaches were trying get Colvin to score in the 4th straight game. I don't think I've ever seen us get blocked 3 times in a row.

Don't have much to say about this one, but highlight of the night was Natalie Yoo scoring late. That was fun to see. I know we played a lot of players, this was a scrimmage, and we are not at full strength, but we continue to have issues with the basics, especially first touch and keeping the ball on our feet when moving forward into the attack. We have a problem at PKs, missing 3 this season already, although that save by the Southern GK was pretty incredible for her size.

Ok State is going to be a very tough game without Olivieri and the Cowgirls want revenge.
