Arriola doesn't quite have the skill to consistently make the final play, but he works his ass off and wreaks havoc. Always a spot for that kind of player

I would agree, except that if health holds, spots on the WCQ 23 are going to be TIGHT. To me, Arriola before Roldan. But there's still Pulisic, Weah, Reyna, Aaronson. Hoppe can be a 3rd Forward and 5th Winger. That's the dilemma for a guy like Arriola.

I couldn't watch most of the match outside of the first 20 or so minutes and the last 10 or so minutes. Heard some on the radio in between. Might watch the whole thing later tonight.

I saw some great effort from arriola. Saw two solid header attempts from Gyasi and another one with the foot that Blake just stopped from going over the line. Saw some good stuff from Musah, de la Torre, Shaq Moore, Dest and Antonee. Very exciting.

What's up with Weah's fingers all taped up?

Just got home from the match. Awesome to see the USMNT in person. That was good ball control. Solid line up Pepi was on point. That ref SUCKED. Had a great time.

Time for Pepi to show up and show out again, hopefully.

I will shamelessly bump this, yes. Looking forward to Sunday.

Back from the match, great game (at least the second half). That first foul was RIGHT in front of us, textbook DOGSO.

Pepi is a beast. Good games from Arriola, Musah, and some others.

weah is a damn lightening bolt. Every time I see him on the pitch it's like, "oh **** that happened"

Walker Zimmerman, Nipple, and Arronson were good tonight….but they are not good enough to get wins in World Cup

Nipple and Arronson couldn't score at the Bunny Ranch with $10,000.

They hustle, they got in great positions tonight, but hope we don't see any of em in Qatar

Pepi Pulisic and weah are pretty dang exciting

Hard to take you seriously when you call a man "nipple". Are you 12 or are you having an adult conversation? It is cute you stilll get a giggle out of his last name though.

Aaron son is young and very talented, giving up on him would be a huge mistake.
Pepi is awesome, Aaronson had tremendous potential.

He was called that here the entire Gold Cup

Totally agree on Arronson.....he is a great fill in for Christian, but really hope we don't see him in World Cup and yes he's only 20. Hope he changes my mind

Some people called him that, but the better nickname was always Paulie Nips

Disagree. Aaronson is a lock for the WC roster at this point. His scoring per cap avg is elite.

Zimmerman is, IMO, one of our 4 best CBs at the moment. The only CBs I rate ahead of him are Brooks and Robinson. Richards may also jump up there, but has never really played for USMNT yet. Ream is too old and getting older. McKenzie is ok, but nothing special at the moment. Miazga may be making a leap, something to keep an eye on. I liked Aaron Long pre-injury, but it doesn't seem like he's back in form yet.

As for Arriola, I think he would have been a USMNT WC roster lock in any previous era. He's a hustle/defensive warrior. But he's just not good enough talent wise to make out winger Corp now, assuming everyone stays healthy. It'll be Pulisic, Weah, Aaronson, Reyna ( and Hoppe as the utility winger/striker).

Yeah, if you think Aaronson isn't making the WC roster, you haven't been watching closely.

Arriola and Aaronson are not comparable. Aaronson has 5 goals and 4 assists in 11 caps. (Arriola 8/4 in 39 caps)

Aaronson is definitely going to make the squad. If Arriola makes it, it'll be as the last man on the roster or via injury. Granted most of the guys that play in Europe seem to be made of glass so that's a decent probability.

I think most of us on this thread would have a different view of Arriola if we were watching him play prior to his ACL injury. He has that Concacaf grit, pace and is willing to get stuck in for the team. However since his injury I have noticed a significant regression in his first touch and finishing abilities. I like him for what he can bring but I think if his game doesn't improve and get more polished he may be one on the outside when it comes to a WC roster.

Arriola isn't one of our most technically skilled wingers and doesn't do much in the final third, but his work rate, movement, and defensive commitment are a somewhat unique skillset on the roster. Can't find tweet last from last night, but he basically shut down the threat from Jamaica's more heavily talented attacking side. If he makes a roster (and I think it's still a big IF), it'll be because we can depend on him to go and lock up an opposing attacking winger and provide covered for our outside backs to allow them to get forward (an absolute must with Dest in there, IMO). We absolutely have more talented attacking wingers, but none of them show a high commitment to defending, which there's a need for at times in both qualifying and WC tournament matches.

Noticed this a lot last night. We were on the 18 lower level on the end we attacked in the first half, and Arriola was primarily covering Dest's runs while adding a few of his own. Also switched sides for a bit which was interesting.

He's certainly not as talented as most of our Euro based guys, but he's the kind of player that definitely has a role to play if we have a spot for him.

If anything, he brings high energy maturity to the team. Not a bad thing.

Immature #1. #2. Arriola is a great soccer player. He lacks finishing quality. And isn't a hyper-efficient passer. But he does everything else very well. He makes good runs. He defends well. Switches with the back well. He has decent pace. He has a great motor. He rarely makes costly mistakes. He's a solid option, albeit not a sexy one. He's the Kellen Mond of wingers.
