Thanks for starting this thread. Thought it was odd that soccer didn't tweet anything about the results until tonight.

Mia Pante will miss some of the exhibition season because she is in the Dominican Republic playing for the Canadian Under 20 team in the CONCACAF tournament. Looks like she started and played 62 minutes in Canada's 7-0 win over St. Kitts and Nevis on Friday and played the entire match today in a 4-0 win over El Salvador.

Anyone going out to SHSU tomorrow? Thinking about making a beeline from a birthday party up to Huntsville. It's convenient for us, so I'd like to take advantage of it.

From the post match story

Quote:

"I am very pleased at the amount of pressure we were able to place on our opponents today," A&M associate head coach Phil Stephenson said. "We were lacking quality in the final third and that stopped the score from being much higher. We are layering different elements into our game and I was very happy with the progress so far."
Are any newcomers or transfers expected for the Fall which might address us putting the ball in the net? This was kind of an issue last year outside of Olivieri.

SHSU didn't have many chances. Our defense looked good. Ags controlled the possession. Newcomers 16 and 34 looked really good out there. Surprising and somewhat concerning that we didn't score more than 5 goals in that game.

While looking at topdrawersoccer.com their transfer tracker said that Natalie Abel had transferred to UC San Diego so I checked the A&M 2022 spring roster and she is not on it. I expect that Mia Pante will miss the first couple of weekends this fall since she will be playing in the U-20 World Cup which is August 10 through 28.

Bummer, I liked her effort and speed! Wonder if that opens up the room for someone else (preferably a dominant scorer!) Probabky just wanted to head back home

Ags outscore baylor 3-1. Two goals off of corners. That's good to see.

Colvin, Williams, Hayes, Yoo, Matula and Fetzer did not play. The starters were:
GK: Caldwell
D: Calzada, K. Smith, Sample
M: Pounds, Pante, Boeckman, Geczik, Cornog
F: Carroll, McDonald
Cornog seemed to be playing a holding midfielder in front of the back line. Calzada, Smith and Gexzik played pretty much the whole game. Gunnarson, Beccerra, Russell, Leb, J. Smith, Kniffen and Dumond played most of the 2nd of the 3 30-minute periods.

Pretty sure she is. She only played in 16 games her first 2 years.

Well that's obviously good news. Now we just need some offense.

Jernigan from Reagan just broke an ankle at midfield and scored from 30 yards out to advance to the fourth round of playoffs.

The Aggies beat ULMonroe 3-0 at Ellis Field tonight. Our women played quite well. Having seasoned, quality midfielders Quinn Cornog and Taylor Pounds controlling the middle of the field worked really well. The back line trio of Karlina Sample, Katie Smith, and freshman Carolyn Calzada did a very nice job, allowing the rest of the squad to push forward and create changes. And the team did just that--setting up numerous good chances. The finishes by Jai Smith (off a perfect cross by Mia Pante) and Caroline Kniffen were quite precise. ULM got a couple of good chances, but all were snuffed out, including some good goalkeeping by both Kenna Caldwell and Jordyn Gunnarson. And, the always-reliable Katie Smith had a beautiful clearance off the line to preserve the shutout.

Biggest potential downside of the night was Lauren Geczik going down with a non-contact injury that appeared to be her left knee. Non-contact knee injuries are always frightening. Prayers for her that it isn't serious.

We used the same starting lineup as we used at Baylor 2 weeks ago.

GK: Caldwell
D: Calzada, K. Smith, Sample
M: Pounds, Pante, Boeckman, Geczik, Cornog
F: Carroll, McDonald

Andersen Williams and Maile Hayes did not play. Everyone else played at least 11 minutes. The goal by Kniffen was nice. She pushed the ball right to left just outside the box and hit a left footed shot into the upper right corner.

Really concerned about Geczik. That would be a huge blow to the team next season. We can't afford any serious injuries this year if we want to avoid a repeat of last season.

I'm no doctor but it looked like a textbook acl injury. Unfortunately I think confirmation of that will be forthcoming.

Probably not the best thread for this, but didn't feel like starting a new one.

Quote:

effective for the 2022 season.

For the regular season, overtime has been eliminated, meaning if a game is tied after the regulation 90 minutes, it will end in a tie. Previously, teams played two 10-minute overtime periods in a sudden-victory (golden goal) format, and if neither team scored, the game ended in a tie.

In conference tournaments and NCAA postseason games, the sudden-victory component has been eliminated, and teams will play two 10-minute overtime periods instead. Also, when a substitution is made by the winning team in the last five minutes of the second overtime, the game clock will stop.

If the game remains tied, a penalty-kick shootout will be held to determine the winner.
