Chelsea only has 3 players out of contract at the end of the season. The others can't leave. They won't be able to strengthen until they get a new owner but they also won't lose their entire roster. If someone buys relatively quickly they'll probably be ok. If it takes a while they're probably screwed.

The main shirt sponsor "3" just suspended their sponsorship contact valued at $40MM/year.

Would the UK allow a sale now? Presumably they would freeze the proceeds.

If this drags out through the summer, those 3 players are certainly gone and they're gonna have to promote from their academy to backfill, right?

3 big names. But they have up to 7 others that could be out depending on what the UK allows them to do.

That's a fair point too. And at some point this enters player right's territory.

If sponsors are able to "suspend" their deals - I wonder if a player could "suspend" their contract as well… essentially put themselves out on loan and make it known that if the sanctions against Chelsea get dropped, they'll have to go back to Chelsea. It'd be a risky deal for both parties, but potentially lucrative too…

I think they'd allow it. But the revenue from the sale wouldn't go to Roman. It seems like the risk here to Chelsea is if Roman decides to try and challenge this somehow and that gets dragged out in the courts for months. Or if the government doesn't sell quickly and/or doesn't find suitors for whatever reason. Because if this doesn't sort itself out relatively soon, I have no idea how Chelsea are going to be able to pay wages with their limited revenue streams. I'm assuming there's some sort of cushion to pay this season's but you'd think at some point relatively soon they'd lose that ability.

Sounds like Chelsea just wants their fans in the stands for the game, which is completely understandable. If they want to operate as normally as possible how can that happen with limited fan support at matches?
