Yeah, it's hard to know the truth anymore. A lot of sources saying 17 dead, others saying 22 injuries and no deaths yet, so who knows. But the video I saw showed what looked like guys close to death and still being hit repeatedly in the head and even laughed at. It's repulsive.

I know the security at the Azteca is always great, but it's crazy that the league doesnt require stronger security everywhere else.
I would love to see a game there, but I don't think I could ever justify it.

Yeah, the reporting last night said 17 dead at one point. Some really gruesome videos and photos. This morning there's no mention of any deaths just serious injuries. Really awful situation and it would have been terrifying to have been trapped in there with your family while all that's going on.

I think Queretaro is supposed to be a pretty nice, low crime area, so this is a surprising location for me. Not that I've ever been there.

Got a WhatsApp audio forwarded, recorded by someone in the stadium who was attacked. Says one of his friends was killed, and he was saved by being pulled into one of the box seat areas.

Also says every group of fans that traveled there with them has at least one death. So the 22 injuries number sounds like the "party line" being reported. I'm sure the real number will come soon, they can't hide deaths forever.

Also talked about how security was nowhere to be found. Really sounds like this was pre-planned and involved paying off security or something.

Same article says they have to have a 1:14 ratio of security guards to fans at Azteca. That is f-ing unreal. That's more personnel than an entire Army division.

I'm finding this tragic event too ineffable for comment. A few words immediately come to mind:

heartbreaking, typical, macabre, unsurprisingly, unacceptable, figures, unscrupulous and abstruse.

Complete shock and loss of dialogue.

Liga MX and FMF came announced the club will ply behind closed doors for a year and the supporters groups got a 3 year ban. The also said their 2026 WC bid was in jeopardy if they had not done this.

Current owners have to sell the club back to the previous owners too. Which seems like an oddly specific sanction to me.

They are not selling the team to the previous owners. They have to give immediate control over to previous owners and the previous owners are now in charge of the sale of the team.

I'll gladly admit that this is confusing to me.
