Been to numerous Cruz Azul games in MX city , and saw pumas vs America at UNAM no issues ..

Maybe more security at the mx clubs?

Seems that metal fences between fans is a bad idea. Kind of like "treat humans like animals and they will behave like them". I was even dismayed when I went to some matches in Europe where seeing sections fenced off for access and security standing in between sections.

I understand the reason they divide like that, and have seen stories of how it used to be worse before they completely blocked off away sections, but I have to wonder if this creates a similar effect to this

Been to several games at el Volcan (UANL) back in the early 2000s. They had metal fences back then. Didn't see any major altercations then, did witness minor altercations (a few beer throwing, and few folks throwing haymakers.)

Liga MX and FMF came announced the club will ply behind closed doors for a year and the supporters groups got a 3 year ban. The also said their 2026 WC bid was in jeopardy if they had not done this.

I like this response. Glad it wasn't just a slap on the wrist.

I still don't buy no one died.

Are they even investigating or making arrests? Or is that just something that doesn't happen in Mexico.

They covered this a bit on The Futbol Americas podcast the other day. The Mexican govt has a habit of underreporting injuries and deaths from incidents. Also that there are good legal reasons why the club wouldn't want to confirm claims that people had died "inside" the stadium - instead delaying announcement of deaths and saying they happened at the hospital. Herc and Seb stopped short of saying there have definitely been deaths, but they did emphasize there seem to be inconsistencies across the accounts and videos and images from people who were there and the later media reports. Time will tell which is accurate.

Also, they arrested 14 men a couple days ago. https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2022/03/08/mexico-soccer-brawl-arrests/
