I'm not counting on Dest.

We also have to make room for his boy Luna.

Morris, One of the keepers, one of the strikers, and Reyna are out.

Dang I didn't realize Dest's injury was so severe. And I forgot about Luna, and I agree with you that Gio is out if/when Luna comes in. He's probably only in this camp to be a traveling companion for Scally. It's sad (but not surprising) how little playing time he's getting in Gladbach. Hope he finds something in life that motivates him… soccer clearly isn't it.

Pepi must have the most difficult people ever. Or, they are incompetent.

Doesn't sound like it's his people's fault.

Sounds like at least one issue is that Fulham wants an injury clause that would kill the deal and PSV doesn't (or likely wants to keep some of the money if there's a chance they'll have to keep an injured player).

But also I'm confused by the "responsibility for the player" language in that tweet. Not sure I've ever seen that. Sounds like they can't agree on a date when he'll actually move.

Nevermind… actually I forgot how the World Cup is impacting this so it makes a lot more sense and Pepi's people are likely involved also. PSV and Pepi's people probably want him to get in ASAP. Fulham probably want to wait until after the WC AND have a the ability to get out of the deal if he gets hurt in the WC. Understandable for all sides, but someone's gonna have to give up some money to get what they want.

Sounds like the impasse is at the club level, not at the player level.

Isn't it the Fulham wants insurance in case he gets hurt finishing this season?

Maybe this time, but this is like the what, 4th or 5th time he has had a deal fall through? **** happens, but at some point someone has to catch the blame.

It was pretty clear that the last time it fell through it was because PSV couldn't find a replacement in time. It was a known possibility from the get-go… they had all agreed on terms but it was contingent on finding a replacement.

You're not wrong to wonder if that's the case because it certainly happens a lot, but I think you're barking up the wrong tree here.

Yes and also I think they're concerned about injury in the World Cup.

And even without the injury concern, there's the question of finances based on timing, which is I think what the weird "take responsibility for the player" language means. It's highly likely that the US make the Round of 32, and probable we make the round of 16, so that means Pepi is playing and then needs rest till mid/late July at best. So he's gonna miss a good chunk of the preseason, and neither Fulham nor PSV want to be "responsible" during this time. And Pepi and PSV both want their money ASAP.

article I read that made sense essentially said Fulham wants the option to back out due to injury.
PSV doesnt want to accept that, because they have to replace him and cant be in a scenario where they replace him and have him come back..
deadbq03

Pepi wouldn't want to accept it either TBH, especially if there's interest elsewhere.

If he is out, does that mean an invite for Sargent? Or we rolling with only Pepi and Balogun? Or, am I forgetting someone?
deadbq03

I'd be fine rolling with just Pepi and Balogun assuming both are healthy. McKinnie is probably the best 3rd option we have there if we get desperate and I trust our midfield depth to cover for McKinnie more than I trust any of our other true 9's to bring anything of value.

But if we did have to have another true 9, I'd bring Haji Wright over Sargent (unless his recent run of bad form continues). He's tall and he's a regular starter on the team that's virtually guaranteed to win the EFL Championship. I also wonder about Sargent's mindset with the Toronto move.

It probably opens the door for Zendejas or a 2nd striker type player. IMO, Zendejas is better than both Wright and Sargent. Hell, I think he's better on this team than Gio too

Admittedly, I don't really know much about this Crocker person and what he has and has not done. I do know that he has been around a bunch of really disappointing results. Losing, underperforming and disappointing results are systemic. He might have been the one who was responsible for all the good things accomplished, but the stink of failure is on him. Glad he is gone. Next guy might suck worse, but I know this Crocker person is not associated with winning. New guy is at least an unknown.

Well he's responsible for bringing in Hayes and Pochettino as our two coaches, so I accept your premise that you really don't know much about him. He will be missed.

While they were both good hires (Hayes was an A+), there's also some serious culture questions around US Soccer that someone is responsible for. Don't know if that's Crocker or someone else.
deadbq03

I imagine he doesn't bear the most responsibility, but a coaching search that ultimately ended in the GGG rehiring was his first act here… so if nothing else he failed to find someone else and make a compelling case to the powers that be.

And while Poch was undoubtedly a big name, he also cost a fortune and hasn't delivered yet (and if we're honest with ourselves, it doesn't seem like he will).

I agree with Fig96 that there are deeper issues, but I'm not sad to see him go.

Seeing as US Soccer has had "culture questions " since the beginning of time, not going to throw that onto him.
