Little odd how on paper pot 2 is stronger than pot 1. I'm guessing most English club fans will be hoping to avoid Bayern, PSG & Real Madrid.

I'm rooting for a Man City - Barcelona - Dortmund - Marseille group.

Can we all agree to just talk all euro soccer on this thread without the threat of gooners ruining it?

Fair enough. Would hate to ruin Spurs special day when they find out which pot 4 team they will be finishing ahead of and which pot 1 & 3 teams they will finish behind.

But really I think all the EPL teams should be heavy favorites to advance from their group. Dortmund hasn't been great but their counter attack style tends to make them more of a threat.

Celtic fan here. I'm very excited about the direction we're heading in but not expecting to do much in the Champions League. I think we can make some noise in the Europa league. We will need a favorable draw to have a chance to finish 3rd though.

I know my stance here isn't popular, but I think the new format will help here, because yeah, it's kind of a shame that Pot 1 has to have teams that wouldn't normally belong due to them winning their league, or EL.

Club coefficients that have no business being in Pot 1 are:
Milan - 45
Frankfurt - 26
Porto - 16
Ajax - 15

I respect the drama and tradition of having champions up there, but when half the Pot doesn't really belong, it cheapens the competition for those in Pot 2 that would arguably belong there instead.

Liverpool - 2
Chelsea - 5
Barca - 6
Juve - 8

New format will help this because even if they keep seeding/pots relatively the same, if you play 10 games against different teams versus 6 games against the same 3 teams, you're less likely to be trapped in a group of death situation.

Honestly cannot disagree more. Champions belong in pot 1. The tournament was meant for the champions to play in. Not coefficients.

Spurs were clearly jealous of Arsenal and asked for a Europa League group instead

An okay draw for us. Real Madrid will probably slaughter us, but I think we can be competitive against Leipzig and Shakhtar.

To round back to the discussion of pots and coefficients. Why in the world was Tottenham in pot 2? There is literally no reason. They have won nothing. Ever.

I was about to say Leipzig hasn't either, but that's technically not true anymore now that that we won the Farmer's Cup last year.

That said, "ever" is a really long time, so it really is just Leipzig that's never ever won anything meaningful.

Tottenham's coefficient is still high because it's based on the last five seasons. The last five seasons include two Round of 16 CL runs, a CL final, a Round of 16 in EL, and last season... Tottenham's total coefficient will decrease over the next few seasons unless they can make some deep runs in the CL the next few years.

But yes, please let the "won nothing ever" argument fuel your anger.

They aren't winners. Zero trophies. Coefficients are stupid. So are intraleague restrictions. I'll die on this hill. The powers that be just want to insure Porto and the like never win again.
