Watching Saudi/Argentina game now…so many close offside calls, game was close to being a blow out. Saudi's 2nd half play was impressive; if they play like that against Mexico that match will be awesome.

Watched Argentina replay earlier. That was nuts.

I'll add this… Twitter is littered with really convincing, but really wrong offside analysis. It doesn't take much effort at all to manipulate those lines such that they're slightly off from being correct angles.

AFAIK those are not the actual lines. I believe they are someone on Twitter adding them in from a vanishing point up top.

That's not to say this screw up didn't happen. It has happened at least twice I know of with VARs missing players way out of view of the camera systems. But I'm going with the 48 hour rule here.

Again AFA isn't complaining. That is pretty telling.

ETA if it's real there is literally nothing happening to fix it here. "The decisions of the referee are final."

Just seeing this thread for the first time. I just saw the replay today on YouTube and immediately thought this goal was onside. It's pretty obvious even without the lines. The left back is playing the goal scorer onsides.

What a freaking joke. How can this mistake happen? Have the VAR people ever played soccer? Do they even know what they're looking at? This is pathetic. The linesmen have a very hard job getting these close calls right, but this simply CANNOT happen with VAR.

Argentina could still get out of the group, but they should be livid, and this should be a major story. Someone should be fired. The Canada game was almost as bad, maybe worse, as Canada could have been awarded 2 pk's, but VAR disagreed, wrongly so, I believe.

As said above, those probably aren't the right lines. Real easy to impose your own lines on a still frame and come the wrong conclusion

"Obvious" is maybe too strong, but it looks onside to me, and they only showed the VAR replay of the guy closest to the goal scorer. I never saw them look at the left back, who looks like he's keeping the play onsides. That's the first thing I said when I saw the replay. Left back...

As for Messi being offside, he doesn't make a play for the ball so he's not offsides.
