They don't want it to be wrong and stop play because the AR raised the flag. So they look at it afterwards.
There are times when it appears to the naked eye, like in the CroBel match, it's onside. And before AR, it would've been onside.

no they do it diff in every game- this one didn't raise the flag and a PK was awarded - they can raise the flag and the play can still continue - play does't stop till the whistle

You would think they would wait on the whistle, but they do not.
When they're being that pedantic on offside, one thing they never show is actually when the ball was struck. I know it's technically offside, but it really goes against the spirit off the law. It'll never happen, but I wish they would go to daylight. If any part of his body is even, he's even.

What I find hilarious, is that's why VAR was brought in to begin with. To find if a player was offside or not, no grey area. And now it upsets people when a player is a hair offside. You're either offside or not, right? Thats the rule, stick with it.
