watched the game live at a bar with the same crew I've watched with back to 2014. couple beers in at the end there, watched it sober on the replay at home later. Man, I didn't realize how close that near-penalty was at the end for us. No call was the right call obviously, but had he called a penalty on Carter-Vickers....we've certainly seen much worse calls over the years.

Also, F ESPN, but the ESPN FC pod was good. I listened last night to the ep that immediately followed our game....not bad.
What I like most about that play is that it would have been an easy header for the Iranian had he not been diving. If he goes at that ball like CP did his opportunity, the Iranians are probably moving on and we are going home.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Defensively he was and has been massive for the team. Yesterday, his touch really let him down when pushing the ball forward and killed several potentially promising openings.

Regardless, he has totally bought into the team.

Man.... I know Robinson gave the ball away a few times in the second half, but he was flying all over the field in the first half. You can't say he didn't leave it all out there.
I've been pretty surprised by the reaction of most on here to his play. He was flat out abusing their RB early on, and through the middle of the game. He definitely gave the ball away some, but we were forcing it through his side repeatedly early on. I really thought the goal would have come from that side.
I've found if you like a player, you focus on the positive. If you don't , you focus on the negative.

Lol just look at the zoo this past season.

If anything, Robinson went on long dribbles to get the ball out of our half a few times and relieve pressure on my heart haha

Jedi played a very Jedi game yesterday. Nothing really surprising in a good or bad way about his performances to me so far this WC.

EDIT - actually he's be inverting underneath our winger a lot more this tournament than he did in qualifying, so that's a bit of a change.

we haven't had a good left full back since Demarcus Beasley. ...and many other international teams also struggle to find a true solid full back that is willing to make those endline to endline runs and is solid enough to play out with their left foot and make the big crosses or a big switch with the left foot. Just 2+ years ago, Jedi was the hope but it was still uncertain if his development would get him there in time for Qatar. We were still using Jorge Villfana at LB on the USMNT 3 years ago. Jedi's development has skyrocketed since then; he proved in qualifying and in the cups before qualifying that he's our man. Jedi's value is very underappreciated and I've said it a few times now, but we really need him to continue to go full 90 in every match at this tournament like he has so far.

He made a couple of runs that our CBs missed that would have put in wide open down the left side in the first half. He has played great I thought so far except for his first touches this past game for whatever reason, maybe just tired legs.

I love Robinson but in the 2nd half there were multiple occasions where he took too heavy a touch and gave the ball away. It's okay to be critical of a player and expect better from them. It doesn't mean you dislike them.

I thought Robinson did what he was asked to do pretty well yesterday. He essentially played as our winger, and caused Iran lots of headaches. Our real wingers frequently had lots of space in the midfield because Robinson was helping pin Iran back effectively.

I don't know, it feels like perceptions of his particular performance yesterday are getting clouded by larger opinions of him. He was going to give the ball away some given what he was asked to do.

Robinson played well. Not his best game of the three, but he was still critical, and the entire offense was really working through that side of the field with a Pulisic, Robinson, McKennie overload (Even the goal we scored was created because Robinson, Adams, Pulisic, and Mckennie, basically pulled their entire team to the left hand side of the field, leaving Dest by himself for a quick switch). Now at the end of the game, he looked very tired. He still had the wheels to run his ass off, but the touch was heavy and deteriorated as the game went on. Ideally we would have a sub to finish out games for him like we've been handling Dest if we're going to ride him so hard during a match.

I'm glad we have an extra day off. The condensed group stage schedule hasn't helped our squad.

Nolan Norris. '05 that just signed with FC Dallas.
U15-u19 USYNT.

Played all his DA years 6"-7" inches shorter than everyone and in the 2 last years went from 5'5ish to 5'10".

I highly doubt he goes to Europe tho with 5 younger brothers and sisters, but you never know.

we truly got steals with Jedi and Musah as both could be playing for England if they had taken the chance to wait a bit longer. Jedi is going to be better than Luke Shaw very soon if not already. Musah might not be better than Jude Bellingham, but he'll be better than Declan Rice soon.

Jedi is crucial to this team. Recall that he was missing in the September friendlies, along with others, and USA looked horrible. His willingness to bomb up and down the left side is amazing. His touch was off yesterday, but he has been amazing overall.

Add that to his great defensive play and his stamina (he's played every minute), and he is one of the most important players on the team. In round 1, Saka looked like the most dangerous attacker in the tournament. He did nothing against Jedi. In that game, Jedi made a critical clearance that denied a 1 v 1 for an England attacker. He read the play perfectly, left his less dangerous man, and cleared a great through ball.

Jedi is awesome, in summary.

my mistake, I like Robinson. He's one of the foremost effort guys I can ever recall on a USMNT. I just wish he could develop a sprint and then finesse touch at the end, or a stutter move to get the sprinting defender to overshoot. That's tough to do running full speed, but hoping he can add another layer cuz dude has the wheels and the want-to no doubt.

Jedi has change of speed moves and change of direction moves. A heavy touch on the end of a full sprint just a couple times does not mean he's incapable- the best in the world will do it too sometimes. We're lucky to have a Lb who is doing what he's doing right now.

I want the US to dole out a beating but I see more of a 2010 Algeria type of game, I think someone else mentioned this in another thread. Pulisic scores the go-ahead goal in the 70+ minute mark and the US advances.
I mean I got the half wrong but still....

I would love much rather had it scored in the 70th minute.

A close friend of the Iranian player that Weah, Sargent, McKennie, etc. consoled after the game was shot in the head by security forces as he was celebrating Iran's loss to the US.

man it was wild on twitter match thread. the vast majority of posts were of photos and descriptions of Iranians supposedly killed or captured by Iranian security forces. i don't know how much was propaganda and much was real. but, i've never been on a game thread like it.

They are interviewing Pulisic right now.

I don't have my hopes up for seeing him Saturday.

Lalas saw it the other way. Said he was going to be ready.

The only way he's not playing is if he's not cleared by the medical staff. And a contusion is typically something you can play through, right?

so he clearly doesn't have an injury to the point where his nut swelled up like a grapefruit. those types of "pelvic contusions" would definitely have him out far beyond Saturday

I think I mistook his shyness for the camera as a negative. Not sure I have ever heard him interviewed.

He just had the misfortune this game to have a few games worth of poor touches against Iran....which logically means he will be flawless against the Dutch going forward in attack

Also the video is down right now, but I believe it was Jedi that made a perfect one touch pass directly back to Adams who feeds it to McKennie for the diagonal.

It may seem like a basic play, but its good awareness of the moment. 9 times out of 10, your LB is taking a touch and looking to go by the defender or combine with someone down the line. Instead, he rapidly one times it back to Adams who had created some space from his man.
Moving the ball with purpose, recognition of what the opponent is doing. The passes leading up to the assists are often not recognized, but they are very important

Exactly. Tylers carry and Jedi's run opened up Dest for that switch.
