So looking back at the World Cup it was pretty obvious that the result of the USA vs England game did not matter even before the game was played (Yes we could have won but it still would not have changed much). If you were GGG would you have done anything different.

That was the best game the team played but if we could have rested key starters that was the game to do it. Wales crapped the bed 4 hours earlier so GGG could have made changes to the plan IMO to try and rest some key players.

You play to win the game and get as many goals and points as possible…

Winning the group would have had us playing a weak Senegal squad that England destroyed

Only 1 team made the Quarters that didn't win their group

So winning the England game would have mattered

Also resting starters ? We were the 3rd youngest team and the least experienced

So confused as to what tournament you watched

I did say this was a hypothetical.

So your hypothetical is that if we had known we were going to finish second and could go back in time to the second game would you rest players? Sure.
oh no

I don't think Greggg would have done anything different for England.

Question is raised because our two 1st choice fullbacks and three first choice midfielders were gassed in the fourth match and it cost us a chance at the quarterfinals. However, we don't have the depth to simply rest those guys vs England. Had we more talented and trustworthy depth, we would have beaten Wales more comfortably in the first match and Iran in the third match and been able to use the subs differently. England and Holland are foes you need your best 11 out there fully fit and rested.

If we can go back in time, can we make sure Alphonso Davies is born in the US and also that Miles Robinson doesn't get hurt?

If we're going back in time I would kind of like to make sure we had one suitable 9 born in the USA...

So we need to offer Mbappe's parents some student visas or something?

Sure, I mean if we are going back in time, maybe visas to Mr. and Mrs. Messi.

I remember watching this U21 French team play the USA in the Toulon Tournament in 2015 and thinking they were going to dominate (which has proven very accurate). Maybe go back and do a little recruiting off that 2015 French club, before they were locked in to France.

This post for some reason reminded me of the U20 WC teams the US had back in the mid 2000s. Those teams were hyped up and beat some quality teams (Argentina - 2005, Brazil - 2007, Uruguay - 2007) who had players that became world class (Messi, Aguero, Marcelo, Suarez).

We...did not. High point of Freddy Adu's career might have been the 2007 U20 WC.

Techinally we knew before the england game we needed one win and to not lose the other game by more than 3 goals. The only look back is how worn out our players were after the last two group games

You try to win the game in front of you.
