Should be fun watching in Mexico.

Got my basement set-up put together last night just for this.. if we lose I'll be thoroughly disappointed.

Damn, HR scheduled an interview at 10:30pm to interview an engineer in India

Been looking forward to this for a while. Bad job by Mexico to not win their group to set up a potential USA-Mexico final, but this will still have a final feel.

This game was 3-2 in extra time in 2021, with a lot of potential for more goals, but John Brooks was still a regular in defense for us.

I'll go with 2-1 good guys in regular time.

Line up questions:

1. Will we roll out a double pivot of McKinnie and Musah with Reyna as an attacking mid? Or will we play it safe and start McKinnie, Musah and De La Torre?
2. Will we see Pulisic, Balogun and Weah as the front 3? I can't fathom any other starting combination.
3. What will be the CB pairing? Zimmerman and Robinson? Or Robinson and Richards?

Is mexico bringing their scrub team too? Or just us?

1. This is my hope. LDLT should only be used as a sub in this one. Best players need to be on the field.

2. We riot if it isn't. See number 1. Get best players on field.

3. I like Zimmerman more than most, but Robinson and Richards is a lot of speed to cover for the lacking defense of Musah/McKennie.

I want #1. But I want Scally at RB so we have some defense there. With Adams out, we can't have Dest running wild (yet not really contributing anything).

I have concerns about Tyler Adams being out, and what formation we will roll with as a result.
I'd be interested in seeing how McKennie and Musah as a double pivot with a more attacking player in front can perform, as both of those players arent exactly defensive minded. Both would need a lot of awareness of when to go forward and when to stay back, snuffing out attacks and tracking Mexican players movements off the ball. They also would both need to be able to handle the on-ball press of Mexico as we attempt to build out from the back, and McKennie has struggled at times in that part of the field to do that. He's made a lot of progress elsewhere, and this would be a good opportunity for him to show he has improved.
If not, no shame in bypassing the press and playing direct occassionally in the game to keep Mexico honest.

I think I'd rather do that than attempt to plug and play someone in Tyler's spot and run the rest of that formation out there.

Didn't he have the assist in Pulisic's game winner?

The rumored lineup is Dest at RB, ARob at LB with a double pivot of Musah and Mckennie with Reyna in front of them with Balogun up top. Puli and Weah as the wingers. Our front 3 should have a field day in transition.

Seems like Balogun's fitting in well with the group. The group took him out golfing and captured it on video. He seemed like a good sport about it.

I believe he's on the Gold Cup roster. So he is squarely considered B Team/A- Team at this point.
